๐Ÿ‡บ๐Ÿ‡ธ LABOR DAY WEEKEND SAFETY REMINDERS ๐Ÿ‡บ๐Ÿ‡ธ
From all of us at Eden Emergency Squad, we wish everyone a safe and enjoyable Labor Day weekend!

As you spend time with family and friends, enjoying the water, grilling, traveling, or riding, please take a few simple precautions:
โ˜€๏ธ Beat the Heat โ€” Stay hydrated, use sunscreen, take breaks in the shade, and check on family, friends, and neighbors.
๐ŸŒŠ Water Safety โ€” Swim in designated areas, wear a life jacket, watch children closely, and never swim alone.
๐Ÿ”ฅ Grill Safely โ€” Keep grills away from buildings and never leave them unattended. Keep water or a fire extinguisher nearby.
๐Ÿ๏ธ Ride Responsibly โ€” Wear a helmet, know your limits, follow the rules, and never operate ATVs or other vehicles while impaired.
๐Ÿšซ Donโ€™t Drink & Drive โ€” Plan ahead, designate a sober driver, or use a rideshare. If you drink, don't drive.
๐Ÿฉน Be Prepared โ€” Keep a first-aid kit available, know your location, and be prepared to call 911 when an emergency occurs.
๐Ÿš‘ Eden Emergency Squad is available 24/7, 365 days a year, to respond when you need us.

๐Ÿš‘ Member Monday: Steve Werner

This Member Monday, weโ€™re proud to recognize our very own, paid paramedic Steve Werner, who has dedicated an incredible 31 years to EMS and continues to make a difference in the lives of patients and fellow providers.

Steve serves as a Paramedic Field Preceptor for ECC, helping the next generation of EMS providers learn, grow and gain valuable experience in the field.

Throughout his career, Steve has been involved in 9 field childbirths and was recognized by Buffalo Mercy for a premature delivery and cardiac arrest save โ€” a testament to his skill, dedication and commitment to his patients.

Outside of EMS, Steve enjoys spending time with his wife, Heather, whom he has been married to for 7 years, and their three daughters, Gabriella, Chelsea and Nicole. Their family also includes two dogs, Molly and Ruby. ๐Ÿถ๐Ÿถ

When heโ€™s not working, Steve enjoys golf, hockey, the Buffalo Bills and Buffalo Sabres. He also enjoys reading and writing about his experiences in the field and sharing those experiences with others.

After 31 years, Steve still believes that being a paramedic is the best job in the world โ€” and that passion continues to show in everything he does.

Thank you, Steve, for your dedication to EMS, your commitment to teaching others, and the countless patients and families youโ€™ve helped throughout your career! ๐Ÿš‘โค๏ธ

๐Ÿš‘ Member Monday โ€“ Sue Christiansen

Sue has been proudly serving her community since joining in 2002.

Sueโ€™s commitment to helping others was inspired by her parents, who were both members of the Emergency Squad and taught their family from an early age that volunteerism matters. In fact, Sueโ€™s first volunteer experience was at OLV Infant Home when she was a teenager.

As a Registered Nurse, Sue felt that joining the squad was a natural way to continue doing what she has always had a passion for โ€” helping people during some of the most difficult moments of their lives. She has also dedicated more than 40 years to caring for others as an RN at Autumn View Manor.

For Sue, volunteering has always been about family, compassion and community. Being able to serve alongside her parents made her time with the squad especially meaningful.
When she isn't volunteering or caring for others, Sue enjoys spending time with her family and grandchildren, camping and traveling.

Thank you, Sue, for more than two decades of dedication to the Eden community and for a lifetime spent caring for others! โค๏ธ๐Ÿš‘

๐Ÿš‘ Member Monday โ€“ Helena Sinicki

Helena, joined the Eden Emergency Squad in January 2026 as a junior member. She is heading into her senior year of high school and has always dreamed of becoming a doctor. Her passion for medicine has been a part of her life for as long as she can remember, and joining EMS has given her the opportunity to begin turning that passion into action.

Growing up with a brother who has significant special needs and is medically fragile, Helena experienced many hospital trips and ambulance rides throughout her childhood. During those difficult moments, she remembers how compassionate and supportive the EMS and medical professionals were toward her and her family.

Those experiences inspired her to become the person who can provide that same comfort and reassurance to others when they need it most.

ยซโ€œI want to be the one helping in times of crisis. I want to be that comfort to others and help the way I was helped.โ€ยป

We are proud to have Helena as part of the Eden Emergency Squad family and look forward to watching her continue to learn, grow, and serve our community. โค๏ธ๐Ÿš‘

๐Ÿš‘ Member Monday โ€“ Derek Filipiak

Derek has proudly served the residents of the Town of Eden as a member of the Eden Emergency & Rescue Squad for approximately 15 years. As an EMT, Rope Rescue Technician, and Rescue Technician, he currently serves as one of our Rescue Lieutenants, helping lead our technical rescue operations and ensuring our team is always prepared to answer the call.

Derek chose to join the Squad because of his strong family ties to Eden. With much of his family living in or around the communityโ€”and family members serving alongside himโ€”he wanted to give back to the town that has always been an important part of his life.

In addition to his service with Eden EMS, Derek has dedicated 23 years as a volunteer firefighter and 22 years as an EMT. His decades of experience, commitment to training, and passion for helping others make him an invaluable member of our organization.

Outside of emergency services, Derek enjoys riding his motorcycle, spending time outdoors, and is a proud member of the Red Knights International Motorcycle Club.

Thank you, Derek, for your years of dedication, leadership, and unwavering commitment to serving the residents of Eden and the surrounding communities.
