Eden Rescue Squad is seeking donations of drinks and individually packaged snacks to support our dedicated first responders during calls and training sessions.

These men and women work long hours serving our community, often with limited time for breaks, and sometimes in the middle of the night when there are not many food or drink options available. Your contribution will help ensure they stay energized, hydrated, and ready to respond when it matters most.

Drinks and snacks are used not only during training sessions, but also on fires and larger incident calls, where fire, rescue, EMS, and police personnel spend hours on these calls.

Officials urge families to avoid hills near streets or water and stress supervision as snow brings crowds to popular sledding spots.

โšซ๏ธ Protect Your Head: Wear a winter sports or bike helmet to prevent head injuries.

โšซ๏ธ Safe Positioning: Sit face-forward with feet pointing downhill; never go down head-first, which can cause severe, lasting injuries.

โšซ๏ธ Select the Right Hill: Choose hills that are not too steep, are free of obstructions (trees, rocks, fences), and have a long, flat, open area at the bottom to stop.

โšซ๏ธ Avoid Dangerous Locations: Do not sled near busy roads, parking lots, or frozen ponds, lakes, or streams.

โšซ๏ธ Proper Equipment: Use a steerable sled in good condition. Avoid makeshift, uncontrollable items like cardboard boxes or trays.

โšซ๏ธ Supervision and Timing: Adults should supervise children under 12, and kids under 5 should ride with an adult. Sled during the day to ensure visibility.

โšซ๏ธ Clothing: Dress in layers, including waterproof gloves, hats, and boots to prevent frostbite and hypothermia.

โšซ๏ธ Rules of the Road: Take turns, only one person per sled (unless designed for more), and walk up the side of the hill, not in the path of oncoming sledders

Staying warm? Remember the 3-foot rule! Keep all space heaters at least three feet away from anything that can burn like curtains, bedding, clothing, etc. Plug heaters directly into wall outlets, not extension cords and be careful not to overload outlets and extension cords.

โš ๏ธStay Off The Ice! Many ponds, creeks, rivers, and lakes in North Carolina have a thin sheet of ice on them. It cannot hold your weight and can be deadly if you try!

โœ…This is North Carolina. It doesn't get cold enough to ice skate on a body of water outdoors.
โŽThis is not Canada.
โŽThis is not Ice Road Truckers or Disney on Ice.

Please talk to your children about this and spread the word.

๐Ÿšฉ The National Weather Service has issued a Red Flag Warning for today, Monday, Dec. 29.

Current conditions are critical, meaning high winds and dry air are making fire behavior unpredictable and dangerous. Central NC is at particularly high risk today.

Help us keep our communities safe:

๐Ÿšซ Postpone outdoor burning.
๐Ÿ’จ Be mindful of wind speeds.

Last night for training, some of our members worked on stabilization and cribbing. These members worked on using airbags and cribbing blocks to lift a car off of a patient (a training mannequin) to be able to safely move it out from under and away from the car. Vehicle accidents are common calls that we run on a regular basis, so training on these skills is important to be able to safely do so when these skills are needed.
