We are pleased to announce that Anthony Lovings was officially sworn in as Chief of Police for the Eden Police Department on Tuesday.
In April, Lovings was appointed Acting Chief following the retirement of Chief Paul Moore. Since then, he has focused on strengthening the department, developing personnel, improving organizational effectiveness and ensuring that the citizens of Eden continue to receive a high level of service.
For Lovings, becoming Chief represents both a professional milestone and a deeply personal commitment to the community he has served for many years. A graduate of Morehead High School, Lovings began his law enforcement career in 2009 after completing Rockingham Community College's Basic Law Enforcement Training. He served with the Town of Walnut Cove and the Reidsville Police Department before joining the Eden Police Department in 2018.
Since coming to Eden, Lovings has served in nearly every level of the organization, including Patrol Officer, Detective, Sergeant of Narcotics, Lieutenant of Investigations, Operations Captain and Deputy Chief. That experience has given him a broad understanding of the department, its officers and the people they serve.
βI am honored and humbled by the opportunity to serve as Chief of Police for the City of Eden,β Lovings said. βI have been fortunate to serve in several different roles throughout my career, and I am proud to now lead the department that I have called home since 2018. My goal is to build upon the strong foundation that exists, continue moving the department forward, and provide the citizens of Eden with the professional, responsive, and proactive police service they deserve, for many years to come.β
Lovings holds an Associate Degree in Criminal Justice and has continued his professional development through leadership and municipal government education. He completed the Municipal and County Administration course through the UNC School of Government and is a recipient of the Crossing Award from the Center for Police Leadership and Ethics.
As Chief, Lovings is committed to building a strong, professional and accountable police department while keeping the well-being of the community at the center of its work. His priorities include recruiting and retaining quality officers, developing personnel and future leaders, strengthening community partnerships and using data-driven strategies to reduce crime and improve public safety.
Lovings' commitment to Eden extends beyond his work with the Police Department. He serves as Treasurer of Project Safe Rockingham County and is a member of Rotary International. He considers his role as Chief to be an extension of his commitment to the community he has called home throughout his career.
βChief Lovings understands Eden because he has served this community from the streets to the leadership of the Police Department,β Interim City Manager Terry Shelton said. βHis experience, dedication and genuine commitment to the people of Eden make him an excellent choice to lead the department. We look forward to the department's continued growth under his leadership.β
Lovings looks forward to working alongside the men and women of the Eden Police Department, city leadership, community partners and the citizens of Eden to build on the department's strong foundation and continue making Eden a safe, strong and thriving community.
