Apparatus update!

Draper Volunteer Fire Department is proud to announce the addition of our 2020 Kenworth Engine to our fleet!

This apparatus will be replacing our 1992 Grumman Engine, which has served the citizens of our community for many years. Old Engine 222 has been re-homed and will remain in service with another department.

This new-to-us Kenworth Engine represents a significant investment in the future of our department and, most importantly, the safety of the community we serve. This engine is a significant upgrade to our apparatus fleet and will serve our department for many years to come. Purchasing this apparatus used also provided a significant cost savings from the cost of a brand new apparatus.

New Engine 222 will be in service and serving the community very soon!

IMPORTANT NOTICE TO DRAPER FIRE DISTRICT RESIDENTS

Earlier this year, the Draper Volunteer Fire Department underwent an evaluation through the Insurance Services Office (ISO) Public Protection Classification program.

We are extremely proud to announce that the Draper Volunteer Fire Department has received an ISO Class 4 rating, effective December 1, 2026.

The ISO Public Protection Classification program evaluates communities based on the effectiveness of their fire protection capabilities. Classifications range from Class 1 (best) to Class 10.

Achieving a Class 4 is a significant accomplishment and reflects the continued dedication and hard work of the men and women of the Draper Volunteer Fire Department.

The evaluation considers several important components of fire protection, including: The effectiveness of 911 system, the availability and adequacy of fire hydrants and other water sources used during firefighting operations, staffing, training, apparatus, equipment, the department’s ability to provide effective emergency response, fire prevention, public education, and pre-incident planning.

This rating is about much more than a number.

It represents thousands of hours of training, emergency responses, equipment maintenance, fire prevention activities, community education, planning, and preparation that take place throughout the year.

Most importantly, it represents the dedication of our volunteer firefighters.

These men and women willingly give their time to leave their families, jobs, and personal lives to answer calls, train, maintain equipment, attend meetings, and prepare to protect their neighbors when they are needed most.

This achievement belongs to them.

We would also like to thank our community, the families of our members, county administration, the Rockingham County Fire Marshals office, our mutual aid departments, and our state representatives for their continued support.

Please avoid the rivers until water return to normal levels!

Due to recent rainfall and additional expected, please do not enter waterways as the current and river levels, especially, are at dangerous levels.

The Dan River is currently 5 feet higher than its normal stage, flowing at more than 5-times the normal flow rate at nearly 4,100 cubic feet per second. With additional runoff, the Dan is not expected to crest until Monday morning.

As the end of summer is quickly approaching, we understand how much you are hoping to make the best of every moment, however your safety and the safety of first responders is paramount.

It could be until the end of the week, at the earliest, before river levels and flow rates return to their normal levels throughout the county.
