Nearly 200 fire service members from across North Carolina came together today for NC Fire Service Legislative Day to ensure the voice of the fire service was heard loud and clear at the General Assembly.

Hosted by the NC State Firefighters’ Association and the NC Association of Fire Chiefs, the day provided an important opportunity for firefighters and fire officers to meet directly with legislators and discuss the key issues impacting the North Carolina fire service.

A special thank you to Senator Warren Daniel, Representative Neal Jackson, Representative Paul Scott, and Senator Tim Moffitt for taking the time to speak with the group before they headed to the Legislative Building to meet with their representatives.

We also extend our appreciation to Atlantic Emergency Solutions for sponsoring lunch and supporting the fire service professionals who serve communities across our state every day.

Lastly, thank you to Mike Legeros for taking time out of his day to capture photos and help document this important event for the North Carolina fire service community.

Yesterday, May 20th, our Chief and Assistant Chief had the opportunity to attend the NC Fire Service Legislative Day! Chief Porter and Assistant Chief Guldner met with Senator Phil Berger and Representative Reece Pyrtle to discuss important initiatives for our organization and the NC Fire Service. We’re incredibly grateful for the ongoing support from our legislators and their commitment to making a positive impact on the fire service and the citizens we serve. We would like to thank Senator Berger and Representative Pyrtle for taking the time to meet with our Chiefs, and being such strong supports of not only our department but the Fire Service as a whole. Yesterday members of our department along with Oregon Hill Volunteer Fire Department and Ruffin Volunteer Fire Department, Sta 20 had a chance to participate in the Lincoln Elementary School Water day! We are so glad we were able to help out with this fun event.

Electric vehicles pose additional challenges and risks to first responders during emergency situations. With the recent increase in electric vehicles, our department choose to be proactive by obtaining two EV car fire Blankets and EV de-energizer plugs. This equipment will help keep our firefighters safe while dealing with Electric Vehicles involved in wrecks or that are on fire. Our department strives to stay ready to response to any emergency situation to protect and serve our community.

Eden Rescue Squad is seeking donations of drinks and individually packaged snacks to support our dedicated first responders during calls and training sessions.

These men and women work long hours serving our community, often with limited time for breaks, and sometimes in the middle of the night when there are not many food or drink options available. Your contribution will help ensure they stay energized, hydrated, and ready to respond when it matters most.

Drinks and snacks are used not only during training sessions, but also on fires and larger incident calls, where fire, rescue, EMS, and police personnel spend hours on these calls.

𝗥𝗲𝗾𝘂𝗲𝘀𝘁𝗲𝗱 𝗶𝘁𝗲𝗺𝘀 𝗶𝗻𝗰𝗹𝘂𝗱𝗲:

Today our members had the honor to raise the American flag for the Rockingham County Special Olympics. It was great to see all of these amazing athletes today. Huge thanks to Shane Woodall for making this possible and allowing us to be part of this amazing event!

Over the last few weekends, several members of your Draper Fire Department attended an Agricultural and Machinery Rescue class. Our members learned some new skills including stabilizing tractors and other farm equipment, grain bin/silo rescues, and disentanglement strategies for victims caught in machinery. Our members were also able to sharpen their skills with high angle rescues and rigging techniques. This was two long weekends of training for our dedicated volunteers, as they continue to learn and develop their skill set to better serve our community as well as surrounding communities!
