🚒 Eden Fire Department at the Fair! 🎡

Yesterday, our firefighters were on standby at the fair near the Midway, helping keep everyone safe while they enjoyed the festivities.

During our standby, our crew also assisted with two EMS calls.

We’re proud to have our members out in the community, ready to respond whenever we’re needed. A big thank you to all of our firefighters and emergency service partners including Armor Volunteer Fire Company who do an amazing job keeping the fairgrounds safe!

🚦🦺 REMINDER!!! Due to the Eden Corn Festival parade on Sunday, August 9th, Rt. 62 (Main Street) will be closed from Jennings Road to Sandrock Road from 11:30am-1:30pm. Residents can detour using either Paxon Road or Kulp Road to Jennings Road.

The Eden Volunteer Fire Department will be serving up everyone’s festival favorites—sweet corn 🌽 and crispy French fries 🍟

Our stand is open:
🚒 Thursday: 5:00 PM
🚒 Friday: 3:00 PM
🚒 Saturday: Noon
🚒 Sunday: Noon

Come hungry, grab some corn, load up on fries, and help support your local volunteer firefighters. We promise the only thing hotter than our food is our dedication to serving the community. 🔥😉

🎆🇺🇸 Happy 4th of July from Eden Fire Department! 🇺🇸🎆

As we celebrate our nation’s independence with family, friends, and fireworks, we want everyone to make safety part of the celebration.

Remember these important firework safety tips: 🔥 Use fireworks only in open areas away from homes, vehicles, and dry grass
🔥 Never allow young children to handle fireworks
🔥 Light only one firework at a time and keep a safe distance
🔥 Never relight a “dud” firework
🔥 Keep a bucket of water or hose nearby
🔥 Never use fireworks while under the influence of alcohol or drugs

The best celebrations are the ones where everyone goes home safely. Have fun, be responsible, and help us protect our community this Independence Day.

Summer means sunshine, family fun, and time spent in the water — but safety always comes first. Drowning can happen quickly and quietly, often in just seconds.

Help keep your family safe this summer by remembering these important tips:

✅ Never leave children unattended near water
✅ Designate a dedicated “Water Watcher” while kids are swimming
✅ Install barriers and self-latching gates around pools
✅ Keep rescue equipment and a phone nearby
✅ Learn CPR — seconds matter in an emergency
✅ Put distractions away while supervising swimmers
👀 Watch. Prevent. Protect.

🚨☀️ HEAT SAFETY REMINDER FROM EDEN FIRE DEPARTMENT ☀️🚨

As temperatures rise, please take extra precautions to protect yourself, your family, neighbors, and pets. Heat-related illnesses can develop quickly and become serious if warning signs are ignored.

✅ Stay hydrated — drink water throughout the day, even if you don't feel thirsty
✅ Limit strenuous outdoor activity during peak heat hours (11 AM–4 PM)
✅ Wear lightweight, light-colored clothing
✅ Stay in air-conditioned or shaded areas whenever possible
✅ Check on elderly neighbors, children, and anyone vulnerable to heat
✅ Never leave children or pets in a vehicle — temperatures inside can become deadly within minutes

Know the warning signs of heat exhaustion and heat stroke:
⚠️ Dizziness
⚠️ Heavy sweating
⚠️ Nausea
⚠️ Headaches
⚠️ Confusion
⚠️ High body temperature

If someone shows signs of heat stroke, call 911 immediately.

🚒 The Rising Cost of Protecting Our Communities 🚒

Many people see firefighters responding to emergencies, but what often goes unseen is the growing cost of the equipment and apparatus needed to safely do the job.
For volunteer fire departments, every helmet, pair of gloves, radio, breathing apparatus, and set of turnout gear is essential—not optional. The cost to outfit just one firefighter has risen dramatically, from around $6,750 in 2020 to over $22,000 today. Fire engines and ladder trucks have also nearly doubled in cost.

Volunteer fire departments work hard to provide professional service while relying heavily on community support, fundraising efforts, grants, and local funding. These rising expenses make it more challenging than ever to maintain equipment, replace aging apparatus, and ensure firefighters have the tools needed to respond safely.

Please remember that when you support your local volunteer fire service—whether through donations, fundraisers, memberships, or simply spreading awareness—you’re investing directly in the safety of your community and the men and women who answer the call.
