🚒🔥 TRAINING TODAY, READY FOR TOMORROW! 🔥🚒

September was a busy month for training, and the Eden Fire Department is proud of our firefighters who took the time to sharpen their skills, expand their knowledge, and prepare to better serve our community! 💪

📚 Here’s a look at some of the training opportunities completed last month:

🔥 Smoke Divers – Mask Confidence Course
This intense, three-day course focused on building confidence and proficiency in self-contained breathing apparatus (SCBA) use, self-rescue, entrapment, mask and SCBA malfunctions, hose line advancement in challenging conditions, basement self-rescue, Mayday procedures, and fast-paced primary searches. Firefighters worked on teamwork, communication, and decision-making under pressure.

🌩️ Weathering the Storm: Understanding Dangerous Weather Events
This course focused on recognizing and monitoring potentially hazardous weather, including severe thunderstorms, winter weather, and flooding. Participants learned about meteorology, weather observation, forecasting tools, National Weather Service products, and how to find reliable weather information to improve preparedness and on-scene decision-making.

👩‍🚒 Women’s Firefighter Series
This hands-on training opportunity focused on building confidence, teamwork, and practical firefighting skills. Training stations included hose line advancement, ladder bailouts, firefighter rescue, drags and carries, Mayday procedures, commanding a Mayday, and ventilation instructed by an incredible group of all female firefighters from around WNY.

Every training hour makes a difference! We are grateful to our members for their dedication to continuing education and for putting in the hard work needed to keep themselves, their fellow firefighters, and our community safe. ❤️💛

🚒🔌 FIRE PREVENTION WEEK 2026: CHARGE SMART, STAY SAFE! 🔋🔥

Not all chargers are created equal! ⚡ The Eden Fire Department is reminding everyone that safe charging starts with the right equipment. A little prevention can go a long way toward preventing a lithium-ion battery fire in your home.

📱 Here are a few ways to charge safely:

✅ Use the charger and cord that came with your device or one approved by the manufacturer.

🔌 Unplug chargers when they’re not in use.

🚫 Toss damaged, frayed, or worn-out charging cords and chargers.

🛏️ Never charge phones, tablets, or other devices on beds, pillows, or under blankets.

⚠️ Avoid cheap, off-brand chargers and never overload outlets.

🔋 Unplug devices when they’re fully charged, and always follow the manufacturer’s instructions.

A damaged charger or an unsafe charging setup can turn a simple everyday task into a serious fire hazard. Don't let your charging habits spark a problem! 🔥

🚒🔥 WE HAD A BLAST AT THE SCHOOLS! 🔥🚒

Yesterday, the Eden Fire Department stopped by the GLP and Elementary schools to spend some time with some of our favorite little future firefighters! 👨‍🚒👩‍🚒

We talked with all of the students from Pre-K up through 5th grade about some VERY important fire safety messages! 🔥

We covered everything from:

🔥 What to do if there's a fire
🚨 When and how to call 911
🏠 Having a home escape plan
🛑 Stop, Drop & Roll
💨 Smoke alarms and why they matter
👨‍🚒 And what firefighters look (and sound!) like in all that gear!

The kids had some great questions, big smiles, and hopefully learned a few things that will help keep them safe, sound, and out of hot water! 😜

A HUGE thank you to the teachers, staff, and students for letting us hang out and spread some fire prevention knowledge!

Remember: Fire safety isn't something to play with — but learning about it can be FUN! 🚒❤️

In between presentations the crew even conducted some training on hooking up to fire hydrants to stay prepared for when duty calls!!

🚒🔥 FIRE PREVENTION WEEK: LITHIUM-ION BATTERY SAFETY 🔥🚒

Small batteries. Big risks. 🔋🔥

Lithium-ion batteries power many of the devices we use every day — phones, laptops, e-bikes, power tools, and more. When damaged, overheated, or improperly charged, these batteries can catch fire, explode, and be extremely difficult to extinguish.

Here are a few important ways to help prevent a lithium-ion battery fire:

🔋 Use approved chargers — use the charger designed for your device.
🌡️ Avoid extreme temperatures — keep batteries away from excessive heat, cold, and direct sunlight.
🔎 Check for damage — never use batteries that are swollen, cracked, leaking, or damaged.
🏠 Store batteries safely — keep them in a cool, dry location away from flammable materials.
⚡ Don't leave charging devices unattended.

🚨 If a lithium-ion battery fire starts:

➡️ Get to a safe location.
➡️ Do NOT put yourself at risk trying to fight the fire.
➡️ Call 911 and let firefighters handle it.

Take a minute to look around your home and identify the lithium-ion batteries you're using. A little prevention can go a long way toward keeping your family and our community safe!

🚒🔥 FIRE PREVENTION WEEK 2026! 🔥🚒

The week of October 4–10 is Fire Prevention Week! This year’s theme, “Charge Into Fire Safety: Lithium-Ion Batteries in Your Home,” focuses on an important fire safety risk in our homes.

📱💻🚲 From phones and laptops to e-bikes, power tools, and other devices, lithium-ion batteries are everywhere. Knowing how to use and charge them safely can help prevent fires and protect your family.

🔋 This week, remember to:

✅ Use the charger that came with your device
✅ Look for the UL mark on batteries and chargers
✅ Charge devices on a hard, non-combustible surface
🚫 Never charge devices on beds, couches, or under pillows
🌡️ Keep batteries away from extreme temperatures
🔎 Inspect batteries for swelling, leaking, or unusual odors
♻️ Properly recycle lithium-ion batteries — never throw them in the trash

🐻🚒 WHAT A BEAR-Y BUSY NIGHT! 🚒🐻

The crew of our 3rd Annual Teddy Bear Sleepover certainly didn’t come to the firehouse just to sleep!

These little guys did it all:

🚒 Took over the officer’s seat
💦 Got their paws on the fire hose nozzle
🪚 Put the saws to work
💨 Tried on air packs
🚦 Learned how to direct traffic
🍿 And finally kicked back for a movie! 🎬

After all that hard work, we think they officially earned a night of rest! 😴🐻

They came as stuffed animals… but they’re leaving as bear-ly trained firefighters! 😂🔥

We’d say they had a paws-itively awesome sleepover! 🐾🚒❤️

🚒🔥 WHAT A WEEKEND FOR THE EDEN FIRE DEPARTMENT! 🔥🚒

It was a busy one for the members of the Eden Fire Department, and we were proud to be out in the community while also sharpening our skills!

🎒🚒 Back to School Bash – Touch-A-Truck!
We had a great time bringing the trucks out for the kids at the Back to School Bash! Seeing all the smiles, climbing through the apparatus, answering questions and completing the obstacle course made for a great night. We love getting the opportunity to connect with our community!

🏃‍♂️🏃‍♀️ Tunnels to Towers 5K
Our firefighters also laced up their boots (and running shoes!) to participate in the Tunnels to Towers 5K, honoring the heroes who made the ultimate sacrifice and supporting the important work of the T2T Foundation.

🔥👨‍🚒 Smoke Divers Training
While some members were hitting the pavement, others were hitting the training ground! FF's Quinn and Morris along with Lt. Keller participated in this year’s Smoke Divers course hosted at the Erie County Training and Operations Center.

This class is designed for Interior Firefighters who are looking to advance their skills in self rescue, entrapment, SCBA malfunctions, mask malfunctions, and mayday procedures. Firefighters
develop teamwork and communication proficiency, hose line advancement skills in hoarder conditions, basement self-rescue, and fast paced primary searches.

Great job to all of the firefighters from around WNY who participated and completed the intense course!

From community outreach, to honoring heroes, to hands-on training — our members were busy! 💪

🚨 $373,911 AWARDED TO EDEN! 🚨

The Eden Fire Department is proud to announce that the Town of Eden Fire District (Eden Fire Department #1 and East Eden Fire Company) has been awarded $373,911 through the New York State V-FIRE Grant Program! 🔥🚒

This significant grant will allow us to make two major investments in our department:

💨 A NEW CASCADE AIR-FILLING SYSTEM

A new system will allow us to fill our firefighter SCBA air bottles right here at our fire hall, improving our ability to maintain our air supply and keep our firefighters ready to respond.

📻 NEW PORTABLE RADIOS

The grant will also provide funding to replace our outdated portable radios with new equipment, improving communication and coordination for our firefighters on emergency scenes.

These are more than just equipment upgrades — they are investments in firefighter safety, emergency response, and the residents of the Eden community.

We are incredibly grateful to New York State Division of Homeland Security & Emergency Services and everyone involved with the V-FIRE Grant Program for this tremendous investment in volunteer fire departments across New York State.

A special thank you to the everyone who worked on our grant application to make this award possible including Grantmasters Inc. who wrote the grant for us!

🚒 A Busy August at Eden Fire! 🚒

August was another busy month for the members of the Eden Fire Department, and we want to take a moment to say THANK YOU to everyone who answered the call, attended drills, helped with work nights, and gave their time to support our department and community.

August also brought one of our biggest community events of the year — the Eden Corn Festival fundraiser! 🌽🔥 A huge thank you to all of our members, their families and our friends who volunteered their time to make the fundraiser a success. We couldn’t do it without you!

Congratulations to our Top Responders for August, and thank you to ALL of our members for everything you do.
Your dedication, hard work, and willingness to serve our community truly make a difference. ❤️🖤💛

On this day, we remember the courage, sacrifice, and unity that emerged from one of the darkest moments in our nation’s history.

We honor the innocent lives that were lost, the first responders who ran toward danger, the service members who answered the call, and the countless families whose lives were forever changed.

Twenty-five years later, the memory of September 11, 2001 still reminds us of the strength, compassion, and resilience of the American spirit. In the face of unimaginable tragedy, communities came together, strangers helped one another, and a nation stood united.

Today, we pause to remember, to honor, and to reflect.
