Marathon County Register of Deeds Jenni Lemmer is encouraging property owners to register for a free Land Notification service designed to alert individuals when documents are recorded using their personal name, business name, or a particular parcel identification number.

Once registered for the service, whenever such a document is recorded, the property owner would automatically receive an email or text message alerting them and providing details regarding the type of document and date it was recorded. This early notification allows property owners to quickly review activity related to their property and take prompt action if something appears incorrect or suspicious.

Lemmer explained that while there have not been any fraudulent recordings identified in Marathon County to this point, the service can provide additional information to help property owners.

“Our residents, local realtors, and title companies are doing an excellent job staying alert and raising questions to limit the likelihood that a fraudulent document even makes it to recording,” said Register of Deeds Jenni Lemmer. “And, while the Land Notification service cannot prevent a fraudulent document from being recorded, it does offer the opportunity for increased awareness, helping property owners stay informed about recorded documents using their name, their business name, or their property, so that they can respond quickly to address it.”

Property owners can sign up for Land Notification by visiting https://rod.co.marathon.wi.us/Landnotification or going through the Marathon County government website.

It’s a snowy one out there, folks.

Road conditions are already deteriorating, and visibility may change quickly as the storm moves through. Please plan extra time for any travel tonight, and if you don’t need to be on the roads, it’s best to stay home.

A few reminders:

• Slow down and increase following distance.
• Give plow drivers plenty of space to work.
• Clear all snow and ice from your vehicle before driving.
• Check on neighbors who may need assistance.

Stay safe, everyone.

⚠️ Snowstorm Notice & Winter Parking Reminder

The Edgar Police Department is advising all residents of expected snowfall tonight. With accumulating snow, we want to remind everyone of the Village’s Winter Parking Regulations, which are now in effect.

From November 1st to April 1st:
- No parking is allowed on any Village street between 3:00 a.m. and 6:00 a.m.
- This applies to all vehicles and trailers.
- Exceptions: Medical and public safety personnel responding to emergency calls.

These rules are in place to ensure our streets can be properly plowed during winter weather.

Vehicles parked in violation may receive a citation. If a vehicle interferes with snow removal, it may be towed, and towing charges are the responsibility of the vehicle owner.

Your cooperation helps keep our roads safe and clear for everyone.

If you have questions, please contact the Edgar Police Department.

🚰 Water Main Break Update 🚰

We’re happy to announce that the water main break has been repaired, and all water service has been restored!

Please note: You may experience some discoloration in your water, similar to when hydrants are exercised. This is normal and should clear up after running your cold water tap for a few minutes.

The crew is working to salt, sand and clean up where possible, the water and ice on 3rd Avenue; please avoid walking on the street and sidewalk in this location until the area is clear.

Thank you for your patience and understanding while we worked to resolve the issue. If you have any questions or concerns, feel free to contact us.

🚨 Water Main Break Update 🚨

Thank you for your patience and tips as we’ve monitored the water main break. The break has now surfaced, and with the help of Wisconsin Rural Water's monitoring device, we’ve pinpointed the location on East Maple Street.

🔧 Repair Schedule:

When: Tomorrow, starting around 9:00 a.m.
Where: East Maple Street
Impact: East Maple Street will be closed, and there will be a temporary interruption of water service for businesses and residents in the area.

We truly appreciate your understanding and cooperation during this time. We will keep you updated as the repairs progress. Thank you for your support!

🚨 Water System Update 🚨
As the situation has progressed, we now believe the issue may not be a watermain break but potentially a smaller lateral break. We continue to ask for your help—if you notice anything unusual, please report it to us right away.
The water seen on Hwy H is not from a located break but occurred when the water tower overflowed overnight as we manually managed the two wells. We apologize for this and appreciate your understanding.

Caustic Pump Replacement

We also want to inform you about our caustic pump replacement, during the approximately two-week window before the new pump was installed, the failing pump injected a reduced amount of caustic to the water system, and when the new pump was installed we returned back to the normal caustic in the system. Adding caustic generally results in water that feels "softer" because it stabilizes minerals and reduces discoloration or sediment. We’re happy to report that the new pump is installed and operating properly.

To explain caustic further:
Why we use caustic: Caustic is added to adjust the pH of the water. This helps reduce water corrosiveness and keeps naturally occurring minerals (like iron and manganese) contained within the pipes. Without caustic, these minerals may release into the water, leading to discoloration or sediment.

Safety: The discoloration or sediment you may notice is purely aesthetic and poses no harm. The caustic addition is a standard part of water treatment to ensure clean, clear water from your taps.
Water hardness is determined by the concentration of calcium and magnesium ions in the water. Adding caustic does not remove these ions, so it does not change the actual hardness. If less caustic is added and the pH drops, the water may dissolve more minerals from pipes, leading to sediment or discoloration. This might feel like "harder" water, even though the actual hardness hasn't increased. Conversely, more caustic can reduce corrosiveness and keep minerals stable in the pipes, potentially giving the impression of "softer" water because there is less sediment or discoloration.
However, caustic increases the pH of the water, making it more alkaline. This can stabilize the water and prevent the release of minerals (like iron and manganese) from pipes into the water, which might make the water appear "cleaner" or "softer."
Ice on Hwy H
To address the ice caused by the water tank overflow:
❄️ Sand and salt have been applied to sidewalks, and we are working to ensure areas in front of all mailboxes are treated.
❄️ Please use extreme caution if walking on the ice.
As the weather warms up on Thursday and Friday, we will do our best to clean up the area further.
