The Edgartown Patrolman’s Association hosted another successful Senior Dinner.
🔸We hosted over 80 Edgartown seniors for an amazing meal. Working with Joe Monteiro of 19 Raw / 19 Prime, we really put together a great afternoon. Our guests were treated to a three-course meal featuring an appetizer, a choice of steak, chicken or salmon, and a delicious cheesecake dessert.
🔸A big thank you to the entire 19 staff for helping us with this event. We would also like to thank the Council on Aging ⚓️ for assisting us; we couldn’t do it without you!!
🔸It was great to get so many from our community together and an amazing opportunity to connect with some new friends as well. Thank you to all who attended.

Dear Edgartown Community,

It is with deep sadness and a profound sense of loss that we share the passing of our friend, retired Edgartown Police Department Sergeant Joel M. DeRoche.

Sergeant DeRoche began his service with the department as a young traffic officer in the summer of 1992, returning as a Special Officer for summers 1993-96. In 1997, he was sworn in as a full-time police officer, embarking on a remarkable 28-year career defined by dedication, integrity, and quiet professionalism. Upon his retirement in 2025, he left behind a legacy that will not be forgotten.

Over the course of his career, he served in numerous roles that reflected both his skill and his willingness to step forward wherever needed. He was a School Resource Officer who built trust with students and families, a Fi****ms Licensing Officer known for his fairness and diligence, and a Fi****ms Instructor and Department Armorer who ensured the highest standards of safety and preparedness. He also served proudly as a Bike Patrol Officer, Boat Crew Member, Field Training Officer, and as the Chappaquiddick Liaison Officer, strengthening connections within Edgartown and throughout our island community.

More than his assignments, however, it was his character that defined him. When he wasn’t in the woods somewhere hunting or on the water fishing, he was deeply devoted to the Town of Edgartown and served our community with compassion, treating every person with dignity and respect. He carried a sense of humor that lightened difficult days and a steady presence that his fellow officers and this community came to rely upon.

To his two daughters, whom he loved beyond measure, and to all who knew him as a son, brother, colleague, friend, or fellow Westfield State fighting owl we extend our heartfelt condolences. His impact on this department and on the community he served so faithfully will endure.
