✨8 spots left in our next class!✨
Hello from K9 Overwatch! We are a free service dog training program for veterans and first responders. We included some additional details about our program below. Please help us to share this information so it can reach those who would benefit from the services we offer.
If you are interested in more information about joining our next class or if you know someone who could benefit from a trained service dog, please reach out. We have 8 spots left for our next class of handlers that begin on June 20th.
K9 Overwatch is a free service dog training program for veterans and first responders that aims to improve quality of life by providing task training specific to the dog handler’s disability. Our class meets weekly in a group setting to foster community and connection among our current and previous handlers.
Each class will undergo three phases of training, with a skills test required to pass to each new phase. Phase 1 focuses on basic obedience to instill the fundamental tools each dog will need to continue training. Phase 2 introduces more challenging and advanced obedience principles and begins the socialization and desensitization process that each dog will need to serve in a public setting. Phase 3 consists of more rigorous obedience training and task training to ensure the dog is able to meet the high quality standards required of a service dog.
Our program begins with temperament testing for those who wish to train a dog they already have. We also work with local animal shelters to find adoptable dogs for handlers who do not have a dog or whose dog does not fulfill the requirements of temperament testing.
On average, the full 3-phase course will take 32 weeks to complete. However, our support does not end upon completion of the course. Handlers are encouraged to reach out anytime they need assistance with further training and are invited to join us for future class days, group outings, and special events.
