It is with heavy hearts that we remember our friend Billy Hurt.

Billy was a retired firefighter from Columbia, Missouri, and after retirement he continued serving the fire service through his work with Alex Air. Our department purchased our extrication tools from Billy, and he came to our station several times to train our firefighters.

Anyone who ever trained with Billy knows there was no one quite like him. He always had a smile on his face and, like everyone says, he usually showed up in flip flops ready to get to work. Billy had a true passion for teaching and for the fire service. He would work with firefighters until they felt confident and comfortable with the tools, always patient and always willing to share his knowledge.

He never expected anything in return — he simply wanted firefighters to be better prepared to help people on their worst day.

Many times we told others, “If you want to learn good extrication, get ahold of Billy.”

Billy made a lasting impact on our department and on the firefighters he trained. His knowledge, dedication, and friendship will not be forgotten.

Billy will truly be missed.

Rest easy, Billy.

🔥 Public Safety Announcement – Elevated Fire Risk Saturday 🔥

Due to continued dry conditions and breezy weather, Saturday will remain favorable for fast-spreading fires in our area.

Even though temperatures may be moderate, dry vegetation combined with wind can cause fires to spread quickly and become difficult to control.

🚫 We strongly ask that no open burning take place on Saturday.

This includes brush piles, trash burning, and recreational fires.

Your cooperation helps protect homes, property, and emergency responders. If you see smoke or unattended fire, please report it immediately.

Thank you for helping keep our community safe.
