As Edgewater celebrates our 125th anniversary, we remember a historic event with connections to Edgewater.

Wednesday, August 26th marks the 62nd anniversary of the Beatles playing Red Rocks Amphitheater. At the time Beatlemania was sweeping the nation, including on KIMN radio, which broadcast from Edgewater from the mid 1950s into the 1980s. KIMN was a top rated radio station.

Edgewater’s KIMN presented the Beatles at Red Rocks on August 26th, 1964. Edgewater residents went to the show, and at least one worked the show. The late Al Schuppert started working concessions at the show and was moved to front of stage security.

In honor of our connection with the historic event, Wednesday, August 26th has been declared “Edgewater’s KIMN presents the Beatles at Red Rocks Day” in Edgewater!

This November, Edgewater voters will consider a 0.5% sales tax ballot measure.

Why is this being considered?
Edgewater has aging or incomplete sidewalks, outdated ADA ramps, narrow pedestrian routes, and gaps in bicycle and mobility connections.

A change in how improvements are funded:
Property owners are currently responsible for sidewalk repair or reconstruction next to their property. If approved, dedicated sales tax revenue would allow the City to pay for eligible improvements reducing reliance on individual property owners.

UPDATE:
The shelter in place has been lifted and residents may return to the apartment complex.
This evening, Edgewater PD and Jefferson County Regional SWAT assisted the Denver Police Department with search and arrest warrants. An adult male suspect was taken into custody regarding a Denver murder investigation. There will still be a limited police presence in the area while Denver PD continues their investigation. Thank you to all of our partners who made this a safe operation and to our community for your cooperation.

INITITAL POST:
Heavy police activity regarding a SWAT operation at an apartment complex at W. 26th Ave. and Kendall St. Please avoid Kendall St. between W. 26th Ave. and W. 29th Ave. and stay out of the area of that complex. Those who need to shelter in place will receive specific instructions.
