Orange County is moving into Phase II of updates to the Chapter 8 Boats and Water Safety Ordinance. The Goal: Bringing the ordinance up to date with Florida Statute 327.46.

The Revisions: Introducing Idle or Slow Speed Zones on the Butler and Conway Chain of Lakes, Lake Jessamine, Big Sand Lake, Lake Pickett, Johns Lake, Lake Mary Jane, and Lake Hart.

𝗡𝗼𝘁𝗲: 𝗧𝗵𝗶𝘀 𝗽𝗵𝗮𝘀𝗲 𝗰𝗼𝗻𝘀𝗶𝘀𝘁𝘀 𝘀𝘁𝗿𝗶𝗰𝘁𝗹𝘆 𝗼𝗳 𝘀𝗽𝗲𝗲𝗱 𝘇𝗼𝗻𝗲𝘀; 𝗡𝗼 𝗻𝗲𝘄 𝗦𝘄𝗶𝗺 𝗔𝗿𝗲𝗮𝘀 𝗼𝗿 𝗩𝗲𝘀𝘀𝗲𝗹 𝗘𝘅𝗰𝗹𝘂𝘀𝗶𝗼𝗻 𝗭𝗼𝗻𝗲𝘀 𝗮𝗿𝗲 𝗯𝗲𝗶𝗻𝗴 𝗽𝗿𝗼𝗽𝗼𝘀𝗲𝗱.

City Hall will be closed on Monday, May 25th in observance of Memorial Day. Regular business hours will resume on Tuesday, May 26th.

Due to the holiday, FCC Environmental Services will not provide trash pickup on Monday. Service will resume on the next regularly scheduled pickup day, Thursday, May 28th.

🔥 Burn Ban Now in Effect – Includes Edgewood 🔥

As of April 5, 2026, a Burn Ban is in effect across Orange County due to critical drought conditions. This includes the City of Edgewood, as it is served by Orange County Fire Rescue.

What this means:
• No outdoor burning of any kind (campfires, bonfires, yard debris, trash, etc.)
• No fireworks (unless specially permitted on a case-by-case basis)
• No open flame devices or recreational fires

What’s still allowed:
• BBQ and gas grills in proper working order

The Burn Ban will remain in place until the drought index drops below 500 for seven consecutive days.

Help keep Edgewood safe:
• Clear dry debris from your property
• Use caution when grilling or disposing of ci******es
• Call 911 if you see fire

At the start of tonight’s regular City Council meeting, City Clerk Sandra Riffle administered the Oath of Office to Susan Lomas. Recently reelected and sworn in, she also accepted the role of Council President Pro Tem. We’re excited to have Susan with us for another term and look forward to what we can accomplish together.

Recent lab results from a sample collected on Lake Gatlin indicate the presence of algae toxins in the water column. As a result, Lake Gatlin will be closely monitored by the Florida Department of Environmental Protection (FDEP) staff. The FDEP will collect follow-up samples for analysis at a future date (possibly 1-3 weeks) determined by the FDEP for Lake Gatlin and will provide updates on any possible detection of algae toxins as reported on the FDEP Algal Bloom Reporting dashboard https://floridadep.gov/AlgalBloom

Please refrain from irrigating or recreating on the lake, including swimming, fishing, and boating until further notice.
