We’re proud of our five General McLane educators who recently participated in LETRS training through IU5, strengthening their knowledge of the science of reading and deepening our district’s commitment to literacy instruction. Their dedication to professional learning helps ensure our students continue to build the strong literacy foundation they need for success.
Learning to read is not natural or easy for most children. Reading is an acquired skill." — Dr. Louisa Moats
But here's what IS proven: when teachers understand how reading works, students succeed. A new Kentucky study found schools with more LETRS®-trained teachers had significantly more students reading at grade level and far fewer struggling.
Congratulations to our LETRS® graduates! Your dedication over the past two years to the Science of Reading and Structured Literacy has already had a meaningful impact on both your teaching and your students’ success.

Shoutout to the teachers who completed LETRS Volume 1 (the science of reading and word recognition) this year at Millcreek Township School District, Montessori Regional Charter School, and North East Elementary! 👏🏼
The research is clear: schools with more LETRS-trained teachers see stronger reading growth and fewer struggling readers. You are that change.
