🐾 On National Police K9 Day, we honor the dedication, teamwork, and unwavering commitment of our UTRGV Police Department K9 team.
Today, we recognize Officer Issac De La Garza and K9 (Eyka), Officer Jorge Flores and K9 (Suzy) and Officer David Schaelchlin and K9 (Kona) for their service and dedication. We also extend a special thank you to Officer Marco Huerta, our K9 trainer, for his leadership and commitment to the success of our K9 program. Through countless hours of training and an extraordinary bond with their handlers, these K9 teams help protect our campus and community. 🐕‍🦺💙👮‍♂️

The UTRGV Police Department hosted an intensive Police Cyclist Certification Course designed for law enforcement professionals seeking to enhance their mobility, tactical capabilities, and community engagement skills.
This comprehensive course combines classroom instruction with practical riding exercises, emphasizing officer safety, tactical mobility, community engagement, and patrol effectiveness. Participants will develop advanced bicycle handling techniques and learn how to utilize bicycle patrol as a versatile tool for proactive policing, special events, crowd management, parks enforcement, school zones, and urban patrol operations.

UTRGV Police Department officers successfully completed certification training in the deployment and use of police ballistic shields. This specialized instruction focused on proper shield handling, tactical movement, team coordination, and threat-response techniques designed to enhance officer safety and public protection during high-risk incidents.
