Kidding! Our computers were being updated, we're back! With that, Matt's drawing was supposed to be the 22nd but the officer in charge of that will not be here - so, should we draw early on the 20th? Or would those that entered rather wait until the 24th?

I'm sure you've all heard of Jimothy by now. He's the diva we all wish we could be. And Officer Dodd likes to play Snow White when it comes to the town's animals.. we can confirm we have had our own versions of Jimothy around.

Just a few quick things because there's been a surge in animal calls. Disney.. come sponsor me; or at least make a cop princess.

If you see a raccoon acting funny (coming toward you, spinning in circles, or anything out of the usual trash can bandit activities) call your local PD (or animal control if available) and stay away from it. They are cute, but they don't act cute when they're in distress.

If you see birds - babies that are found outside on the ground - their mother and nest are usually nearby. If you MUST move it from harms way, do not move it far. They have to eat every hour or so, so mom may just be out getting food. Otherwise, leave it be. If it is badly injured, a small box with a light towel and a call to your local wildlife rehab will do perfectly (reach out to us if you cannot find one). Side note - Blue Heron are incredibly mean, we found that out with TPD.

Bats - their teeth are tiny and SHARP. This is one that you will not even know bit you (Ask Officer Dodd about rabies shots...). Again, call it in if it is at a point of removal, some cases may need a professional wildlife removal person. They will not typically fly unless they are hanging upside down with some clearance. This one is a MUST on rabies shots if you think you've been exposed/bitten (pro tip - to avoid some of the shots, if able to - bring the bat for testing). But look at that teddy bear face! He did not enjoy the squad car (and was released).

I'm sure we're missing a lot here but these are the main culprits lately. Remember, don't touch 'em. Your best friend is not a random squirrel you kidnapped. Stay safe, none of us are Steve Irwin (R.I.P.)!

(In our best Leslie Jordan voice) Well, shooot. Whatch'yall doooin...

Haven't posted in a minute so we figured now would be a good time for some pre-labor day reminders:
- If you're drinkin', hand your keys to the sober friend who wants to go home and watch Love Island, not the one drinkin' with you yelling out "WOOOO!"
- Don't fight. You'll see each other at Ayerco the next day and make it weird. Or you'll see a charge and make it even weirder.
- Pick up your trash. Your momma didn't raise you that way. And if she did, we'll have a group 'come to jesus' talk.
- Calories consumed at the picnic don't count. Girl math. Support the vendors and food trucks if you can :)
- If your kiddo says "watch this" you should definitely watch. That could mean anything from 'they learned a new dance' to 'this is going to break a bone'.

We're excited. Officer Dodd is working on a hand painted cut out project for everyone to take pictures with at the pet show. If you see it, snap a pic and tag the Labor Day Picnic page!... please... it's been tedious lol.

Out of abundance of clarity - we have spelled out Illinois on our fb page now. Same page. We are not, nor have we ever been, Edinburg Texas. It's a weekly thing at this point (insert face palm here).

Anyways, roughly a month left to get the raffle tickets for the pit tickets and cop car parade ride! We've got a healthy amount of tickets so far, but again, all of it is going directly to Matt. Get ahold of Officer Dodd for that.

Come snag a juice box while you're at it, Edinburg ILLINOIS :)

Happy 4th Edinburg!

We just want to say thank you for showing respect with the fireworks. Couple of hiccups (spoken with), but overall so far you've all been wonderful and we truly appreciate that. Thank you to those that put on our amazing firework show tonight and to those who did the Freedom Fest. It was nice getting out and seeing everyone. And as far as we know, y'all still have all 10 fingers, that's a win!

Took some quick pics of the emergency vehicles tonight.. I have to say, the firetruck got us there, but only because we had to park behind the view of the show (they're loving this.. or at least they will when they wake up from their naps).

We'd love to see your cool pics from tonight.. not a two hour long Snapchat story though. 🌭🎇🇺🇸

Small town PSA: It's George Strait hot outside guys. Sunscreen, WATER, and check vehicles - no pets, people, or 'probably going to melts' left inside. It's been, and going to be, like this for a bit. Here's that summer y'all ordered... now order some fall weather please.

Real note: heat exhaustion is real and not fun. Ask how we know. Please take into consideration your limits if you're working outside today :)

From all of us at EPD, we are wishing one of our fellow officers a full and speedy recovery. Positive thoughts your way!

Good afternoon to our followers. One of our officers, Det. Nick Todd, was seriously injured in an off duty accident and sustained serious burn injuries to his face and body. He was flown to Springfield where he is currently receiving ongoing medical care. We are working to raise funds to help Det. Todd, his wife, and young daughter during what will be a long road to recovery. If you are interested in donating, there are two ways to do so. If you need a receipt for tax deduction purposes, please mail your check to the Illinois FOP Outreach (information for this method is on the flier). If you are not worried about tax deductions, we are accepting donations at Taylorville Police Department. These can be brought in or mailed. If mailing, please leave a note inside the envelope that it is for Det. Nick Todd, so we make sure the money goes to his family. On behalf of Det. Nick Todd and his family, we thank you for any and all donations as they are greatly appreciated.

Additionally, checks can be made out to his wife, Kim Todd if you are bringing to TPD or dropping off at PD.

Along with Ayerco, we will be doing a raffle for Matthew Behl

All proceeds will go directly to him for medical costs and anything else he may need. They are $3/ticket. If you are drawn, you will receive up to 4 pit passes for the Edinburg Labor Day Derby and be invited to ride in a police car for the parade.. of course you'll get to play siren DJ and throw candy.

Get tickets at the PD or village office. Drawing day is Saturday August 22nd.

Be sure to stop in Ayerco and see their raffles as well. I know I saw a fishing cooler basket, and a Pepsi themed one.
