Choose activities that you enjoy and can do regularly. Fitting activity into a daily routine can be easy — such as taking a brisk 10 minute walk to and from the parking lot, bus stop, or subway station. Or, join an exercise class. Keep it interesting by trying something different on alternate days. Every little bit adds up and doing something is better than doing nothing.

Here are more ways to increase physical activity at home 👍

Many of us have freezers stocked with convenience foods – however they can’t always be cooked in the microwave!

Here are some tips when it comes to safely heating frozen dishes to prevent foodborne illness:

-Read and follow package cooking instructions
-Know when to use a microwave or conventional oven
-Know your microwave wattage before microwaving food
-Always use a food thermometer to check for a safe internal temperature

We have all heard of the physical benefits that being active provides us, including reducing risk of cardiovascular disease, strengthening bones and muscles, and weight control. Physical activity can also improve your mental health and mood. Set a goal to be more physically active this week, whether it is going on a short walk with your family or performing some muscle strengthening exercises at home. Aim to be active for at least 10 minutes at a time to meet your goal of 30 minutes a day, 5 days a week!

How can we tell the difference between a fruit juice and a fruit drink? Always look at the label.

🍊Fruit juices will have the phrase “100% juice” on them, while drinks can have as low as 1% fruit juice. Some fruit drinks with very little actual fruit can disguise themselves as fruit juices.

🍭A good way to tell is to look at the added sugars – these are sugars and syrups added to a food or beverage when they are processed or prepared. We want to decrease our intake of added sugars – often drinks that contain added sugars do not provide many nutrients.

🔍Reading the nutrition facts label can help you make healthier choices at the store and prevent you from getting tricked by a fruit drink.

To help protect yourself, grocery store workers, and other shoppers, it is important to keep a few things in mind:

1. Prepare a shopping list in advance. Buy just 1 to 2 weeks-worth of groceries at a time. Buying more than you need can create unnecessary demand and temporary shortages. ✅
2. Wear a face covering or mask while you are in the store. Some stores and localities may require it. Check your state, county or city guidelines for any other requirements.😷
3. Carry your own wipes, or use one provided by the store to wipe down the handles of the shopping cart or basket. If you use reusable shopping bags, ensure they are cleaned or washed before each use. 🧼
4. Practice social distancing while shopping ⬅️➡️– keeping at least 6 feet between you, other shoppers, and store employees. Keep your hands away from your face.
5. Wash your hands with warm water and soap for at least 2️⃣0️⃣ seconds when you return home and again after you put away your groceries.

It is important to know the difference between cleaning and sanitizing – both are important to help prevent the spread of germs!

Cleaning removes dirt and germs from surfaces or object – using soap and water to physically remove them. Sanitizing lowers the number of germs by disinfecting surfaces or objects using a diluted liquid chlorine bleach.

A key part of healthful eating means choosing appropriate amounts of different foods. Portion size is the amount of a food you choose to eat – which may be more or less than a serving. The nutrition facts label can help you identify the appropriate serving size for foods. The servings per container and serving size can be found at the very top of the nutrition facts label. Remember, sometimes one package of food can have multiple servings! 🍿
