Has anyone found themselves stuck on Peters Mill/Taskers Gap and had to call a tow truck to get them off the mountain? If you have, please post who you used and if you were happy with the service. Ranking them 1-5 (5 is excellent) would help a lot. I would like to give people an idea of who to call, if they get in trouble. Thanks

Update on Season Opening. You may have seen in the media that there are wild fires in the area near Peters Mill and Taskers Gap. Understandably the Rangers are heavily engaged with the fires and the the trail opening will be delayed. The situation may change as we learn more about fire damage, etc., but expect that the trail will be delayed at least a week.

Spring 2024 Update:

The trail should open April 1st 2024. Thanks to Damien Linhurst for reaching out to the Rangers.

Keep in mind, that the fees we pay are really the only funds the Rangers have to maintain and expand the trails. Pay the fee. It's not much and certainly worth fun we have using Peters Mill and Taskers Gap.

Also, we'll probably be seeing more e-bike riders this year. The Forest Service is counting them a off-highway vehicles (OHV) and wants them with us and not on the hiking or mountain bike trails.

This page is an unofficial users’ group for those of us who enjoy riding at Peters Mill and Taskers Gap. As the moderator, I’ve noticed that there’s interest for ATV, SxS, bikes and 4x4s (Jeeps/4Runners, etc.). Although the 4x4’s show as much interest as the others, they have a much smaller percentage of the trails open to them.

I would like to suggest to the Rangers that they expand the number of 4x4 accessible trails, but I wanted to run it by the users first. The 4x4’s only have Trail 435 running between the upper and lower Peters Mill parking lots. It’s an easy trail and used as a starter trail for several of the local 4x4 clubs. Trail 457 runs parallel to 435 and looks more challenging. I thought that might make a nice addition for the 4x4’s and still leave plenty of options for the other riders.

Peter's Mill and Taskers opening 4/1/23, except for the mud pits on Peters Mill. The ranger was too polite to say, but it sounded like it's been beaten so badly it will take a long time to fix, if it reopens at all. Remember that "tread lightly" information you ignored?

Heads up. Peters Mill and Taskers Gap are closed for the winter. There was some miscommunication and the Ranger's office staff told some people the last day would be Sunday, January 15th.

Heads up regarding Spring opening. The Rangers won't be opening the trail until the first week of April. Before you head out, I would call the Rangers station to be sure the trail is open.
