The Edinburgh Public Library was established in 1921. The library was first located downtown above a store front and was then located at the corner of Thompson and Walnut Streets. Upon the death of Charlotte Wright Hageman in 1927, her home located at 119 W. was willed to the town of Edinburgh to be used for the purpose of a library, and was to be named the Edinburgh Wright-Hageman Public Library.

The library under went an addition renovation in 1986. This addition brought the total library space to 4,000 square feet and included office space, meeting rooms, rest rooms, and larger areas for books shelves and brought the building up to ADA codes. Do to the generosity of Naomi Baker, upon her death; the library was able to purchase the former property known as Barney Parson’s Pontiac Garage which later became Central Tool & Die. This property adjoined the libraries current location to the east. In 1996 the library expanded an additional 4,000 square feet of public space bringing the total public usage space to 8,000 square feet. As to date the library has 3 full-time employees and 2 part-time employees. The library subscribes to 7 newspapers 70 magazines, and has a total of 2,135 registered borrowers from the Edinburgh city limits. Services other than materials circulation include a shut-in service for those unable to get to the library, inter-library loan, color copier and laminating service, FAX & Internet access. The library has a large genealogy collection which contains high school year books, birth, death, & marriage records for surrounding counties along with microfilm newspapers.
