Happy National Interns day!! Yesterday we handed it over to one of our summer interns Anaya as she took on Middlesex County’s history guide. Our interns spent the day chasing down four historic sites across the county — here's everything they uncovered along the way
📍 Proprietary House, Perth Amboy — Standing inside the last surviving royal governor's mansion in the original Thirteen Colonies, we traced the story of William Franklin, sworn in as New Jersey's last royal governor in 1763. His unwavering loyalty to the British Crown ultimately fractured his relationship with his own father, Benjamin Franklin — a rift that mirrored the larger divide splitting the colonies apart.
📍 Albany St. & Neilson Ave, New Brunswick — They stood on the very corner where Colonel John Neilson gathered local colonists and read the Declaration of Independence aloud for the first time in this region, on July 9, 1776. There's something different about hearing history at the exact spot where it happened.
📍 East Jersey Old Town Village, Piscataway — This living history village pulled us straight into the 1700s, with costumed interpreters bringing to life the daily grind of soldiers, farmers, blacksmiths, and tailors — plus a few local ties to George Washington himself.
📍 Perth Amboy City Hall — They closed out the day at the oldest city hall in continuous use in the entire United States, taking a moment to soak in just how much history is packed into this county. Happy 4th of July, Middlesex County!

This year is truly special America is marking 250 years since our founding. Two and a half centuries of history, growth, and progress, built by generations of people who believed in the promise of this country and worked to make it better.

That same spirit lives right here in Middlesex County. It's in our neighbors who look out for one another, the small businesses that anchor our downtowns, the volunteers who show up when it matters, and the families who've called this county home for generations and those just getting started here.

As we celebrate this milestone anniversary, we're reminded that our community's strength has always come from the people in it. So today, take some time to enjoy the holiday with the people who matter most to you family, friends, and neighbors. Fire up the grill, watch the fireworks, and soak in the day.

Wishing everyone in Middlesex County a safe, joyful, and memorable Fourth of July. Here's to 250 years of history, and to everything still ahead. 🇺🇸🎇

Happy Father's Day!

Today, the Middlesex County Democratic Organization celebrates the dads and father figures who shape our lives, strengthen our families, and make our communities better every single day.

To the fathers, grandfathers, stepdads, uncles, mentors, and friends who step up thank you. Thank you for the early mornings and late nights, the lessons big and small, and the quiet sacrifices that so often go unspoken. Thank you for coaching the Little League teams, showing up at every recital and game, working hard to provide, and loving your families without limits. Father figures come in all forms, and the impact they have echoes for a lifetime.

We also recognize that Father's Day looks different for everyone. To the single dads doing it all, the men raising children who aren't their own by blood but are their own by love, and the father figures who fill that role for someone who needs them we see you, and we celebrate you. And to those who are missing a father today, or who have a complicated relationship with this day, please know we're holding you close, too.

A special thank-you to the dads who serve our community and country our veterans, service members, first responders, and everyone who balances those duties with the most important job of all: being there for their kids.

To everyone celebrating, we hope your day is filled with love, laughter, and the people who matter most. Happy Father's Day from our family to yours! 💙

Today, we celebrate Juneteenth.
On June 19, 1865 more than two years after the Emancipation Proclamation Union troops arrived in Galveston, Texas, and the last enslaved people in America finally learned they were free. That day, known as Juneteenth, marks one of the most important moments in our nation's history, and it stands as the oldest commemoration of the end of slavery in the United States.

The Middlesex County Democratic Organization honors this day as one of both celebration and reflection.
We celebrate the freedom, resilience, joy, and culture of Black Americans, and the immeasurable contributions they have made and continue to make to our county, our state, and our country. Juneteenth is a day for community, for family, for remembrance, and for hope.

But Juneteenth is also a reminder that freedom delayed is freedom denied. For more than two years, people remained enslaved long after they were legally free a powerful lesson that justice is never automatic, and that rights on paper must be matched by action. The struggle that Juneteenth represents did not end in 1865, and the work of building a nation where freedom, equality, and opportunity are truly available to everyone continues today.

As we celebrate, we also recommit ourselves to that work to confronting injustice, to lifting up every community, and to honoring the legacy of Juneteenth not just with words, but with action.
