The Metuchen Democratic Committee is saddened by the passing of our longtime member Alan Grossman. Alan devoted years of service to Metuchen; on the Borough Council, the Planning Board, and within our committee. We honor his memory and the years he gave to this community.
It is with great sadness that we learned of the passing of former Councilman and current Planning Board Member Alan Grossman this weekend.
Alan was one of the kindest, most decent, and most dedicated people I have had the privilege to know in public life. He was a quiet force in our community whose loyalty, generosity, and steady commitment to Metuchen touched so many people over the years.
Alan devoted countless hours to public service and community involvement. He served two terms on Borough Council and was one of the longest serving members of the Metuchen Planning Board and a member of the History Advisory Committee. He also held leadership roles with the Metuchen Educational Foundation and the Metuchen Borough Improvement League, always working to strengthen the community he loved.
Beyond his official roles, Alan embodied the spirit of volunteerism that makes Metuchen special. He gave so much of himself to others with humility, warmth, and a genuine commitment to the community he loved.
Scouting was also central to Alan’s life. An Eagle Scout himself, he spent more than five decades mentoring young people and serving the scouting community in countless leadership roles. Just last week, Alan was awarded the Silver Antelope Award, one of Scouting’s highest national honors, recognizing his extraordinary character, leadership, and lifetime of service to others.
Our thoughts are with Alan’s family, loved ones, and the many people whose lives he impacted through his friendship and service.
Mourning bunting will be hung at Borough Hall in Alan’s honor as a tribute to a man who gave so much to Metuchen.
