We need to get the word out about what is happening. This testimony shows Governor Sherrill misrepresented what has been happening in Delaney Hall.
what happened to the State Police protecting protestors?
Last night I went to Delaney Hall as a medic to support injured protesters. What I witnessed was beyond insanity. I watched as state troopers brutalized protestors without any attempt at de-escalation. Zero effort was made beyond a single call to disperse within 10 minutes. Less than 120 seconds later, several canisters of tear gas were shot into the ground. One man’s pants caught on fire.
I removed my mask to show them my face and appeal to them not to hurt others.
Not one single trooper could look me in the eyes and say that was a concern if theirs. Not even “do as we say and no one will get hurt.” It was immediate violence.
I put myself between them and people on the ground. I carried protestors gasping for air out of tear gas clouds. When I got them to safety, they continued to push and use more tear gas.
Tear gas that was then fired over protestors, well away from Delaney Hall by the way, and I witnessed the , pushing protestors into the smoke with flashbangs and rubber bullets.
Governor Sherrill, no more words. Make good with them with actions; today before anyone else gets hurt.
