Thursday, September 3, we will be hosting our Chambers Library Zine Creation Workshop from 11am - 2pm!

This workshop will be hosted by Kaitlyn Palone, Librarian III - Coordinator of Preservation.

A zine (pronounced zeen, short for magazine or fanzine) is a DIY small-circulation, self-published publication similar to a magazine, but non-commercial and non-professional. Zines are usually made on paper and then reproduced using a printer or photocopier.

Zine creators have full control over the creation, content, and messaging of their work and do not have a responsibility to a larger publishing company or an editor with regard to the presentation or expression of the creator’s opinions and views. Zines also serve to foster a sense of community among both readers and other zine creators.

This is a great opportunity to get creative, relax, and spend some time crafting! This is also a great opportunity for those who want to use library materials to create a zine for the Fall 2026 Student Zine Creation Contest. The top 3 zine submissions will win UCO Tuition Assistance. Questions about the contest can be sent to [email protected]. You can also learn more about the contest through the link in our bio!

More UCO History as we get closer to kickoff! 🏈 💛

Meet Charles Wantland!

Charles Wantland served as both a football and baseball coach, as well as the athletic director, during his tenure at Central State from 1912 to 1931. His wife is credited with choosing the name “Broncho” for the football team, a name that has remained a core part of the university’s athletic identity. Wantland Hall was named in his honor on February 2, 1928. Later, on January 8, 1965, the university dedicated the football stadium to him, further recognizing his lasting impact on campus athletics.
