Tie Norris, CEO of Exosonic, praised the visit, emphasizing the value of data gathered. They examined existing aircraft platforms like the F-16 and T-38, incorporating their systems into the NGAT design.

AVIONICS | On Oct. 23-27, the Autonomy, Data, and AI Experimentation Proving Ground took a significant step forward. Near Earth Autonomy tested their Griff 135 unmanned aerial system, showcasing autonomous object detection and landing. This testing advances avionics for more capable, independent, and trusted UAS.

Paul Bartlett, NEA head of systems engineering, shared his thoughts on this opportunity, emphasizing how Eglin's operations are accelerating their development.

ADAx, led by the 96th Test Wing, continues to operationalize autonomy and AI, making testing more accessible. The Eglin enterprise is uniting to prepare for the digital future ahead.

HONORING HEROS | Arnold Air Force Base welcomed veterans from the Tennessee Valley Healthcare System in Murfreesboro for a special day of food and activities at the Arnold Engineering Development Complex Veterans Appreciation Picnic at Arnold Lakeside Complex.

After a hiatus for four years, because of COVID, Col. Randel Gordon, AEDC commander, expressed his happiness in welcoming back veterans. He shared, "We are honored to have so many veterans from different walks of life in the local community join us for this event. It's fantastic to reconnect with the community and ensure these vital connections stay alive. These stories are what we want our younger generations to truly understand and appreciate."

Arnold AFB personnel volunteered to serve veterans a meal and hand out goodie bags, making it an encouraging event for all involved.

AIR FORCE RESEARCH LABORATORY | The Air Force Research Laboratory has successfully powered a KC-135 tanker aircraft with an Electric Ground Power Unit which was developed by GM Defense. The test took place at Edwards Air Force Base, California, in August 2023.

The EGPU is a commercial-based system that eliminates greenhouse gas emissions and provides near-silent operation. It is also more efficient and requires less maintenance than traditional fossil fuel-powered ground support equipment.

This test marks a major step forward in the Air Force's efforts to modernize its flightline and reduce its environmental impact.

ON THIS DAY IN HISTORY| On Oct. 8, 1999, the Air Force Flight Test Center Museum and the Air Force Flight Test Center History Office hosted an event to honor Captain Glen Edwards and the 50th anniversary of the naming of Edwards Air Force Base.

Edwards was a test pilot who made significant contributions to the development of American aviation. He was also the namesake of Edwards AFB. During the event, there was a rededication of the base and a Modesto Ash tree was planted in memory of Edwards.

The Modesto Ash tree is a native of California and is known for its hardiness and resilience. It is a fitting symbol of Captain Edwards' legacy, which we here at the Air Force Test Center are grateful for.

EDWARDS AIR FORCE BASE BUILDS INTERNATIONAL PARTNERSHIPS| Test Parachutist from 412th Operations Support Squadron at Edwards AFB recently participated in the Resolute Sentinel 2023 exercise alongside the Peruvian Armed Forces.

This joint training exercise, which was held in the scenic landscapes of Peru allowed the 412th OSS team to work together with their Peruvian counterparts to refine their skills on jump techniques, equipment handling improvements, and ability to work in high-stress, real-world scenarios.

Resolute Sentinel is a vital platform to enhance cooperation between the U.S. and its partner nations, fostering mutual trust, cooperation, and readiness to respond to challenges on land, in the air, and beyond.

The Air Force Test Center Safety Team visited Naval Air Weapons Station China Lake for discussions on test risk management, mishap prevention, and other topics.

The AFTC safety team conducts site visits to other U.S. Department of Defense (DoD) installations and collaborates with their safety teams, test engineers, and range specialists to discuss common safety goals by sharing knowledge while learning new ideas, finding solutions or opportunities to improve test risk safety and mishap prevention efforts across the AFTC enterprise.

The visit to Naval Air Weapons Station China Lake successfully established relationships and shared test risk acceptance processes and practices that each organization uses. The AFTC safety team will continue searching for more opportunities to collaborate with other DoD agencies and civilian organizations to continuously improve mishap prevention efforts.

On December 3, 2018, the 412th Maintenance Group held a “ground breaking” ceremony for the 812th AITS Special Instrumentation Diagnostics Engineering and Calibration (SIDEC) Lab in Bldg. 1600. The new lab should serve as a one-stop shop where technicians and engineers can plan, build and repair instrumentation equipment. 🏗️
