🚨 PRESS RELEASE – STRUCTURE FIRE RESPONSE 🚨
Earlier today, the Edwardsburg Fire Department responded to a reported structure fire in the area of Davis Lake Street in Jefferson Township. While fire units were responding, the incident quickly evolved into an active law enforcement situation involving an armed subject. Based on information provided by law enforcement, fire apparatus and personnel were directed to stage at the intersection of M-62 and Davis Lake Road until the scene could be secured for firefighter safety.

During the extended staging operation, mutual aid assistance was requested to help provide coverage and support operations. Edwardsburg Fire was assisted by:

Clay Fire Territory
Howard Township Fire Department
Central Cass Fire Department

According to information released by the Cass County Sheriff's Office, deputies responded to the residence after receiving multiple 911 calls reporting an armed subject at the home. The suspect fled the residence on foot into a wooded area north of the property, leading to a large-scale law enforcement response involving multiple agencies. The situation later escalated into an officer-involved shooting near Pine Lake Street and Harris Street following an exchange of gunfire with responding officers.

Once law enforcement secured the area, fire crews were cleared to enter the scene at approximately 3:00 PM. Firefighters extinguished what remained of the residence and conducted overhaul operations to ensure the fire was fully contained.

No firefighters were injured during the incident.

Edwardsburg Fire would like to thank all assisting agencies for their professionalism, coordination, and support during a very dynamic and challenging incident.

We also appreciate the patience and cooperation of the community as emergency personnel worked to ensure the area was safe.

The incident remains under investigation by the appropriate law enforcement agencies.
