We recognize that voters may have questions about voting by mail. The U.S. Supreme Court recently declined to allow proposed new U.S. Postal Service ballot requirements to take effect before the November 3, 2026 General Election. As a result, Illinois vote-by-mail procedures remain unchanged.

The deadline for an election authority to receive a request to mail a vote-by-mail ballot is Thursday, October 29. Voters may return completed ballots by mail, in person to the Madison County Clerk's Office , or through an authorized secure ballot drop box in front of our office in the Administration Building (157 N Main St., Edwardsville, IL)

Ballots returned by mail must be postmarked no later than Election Day and received by the Clerk's Office within 14 days after the election. Because postal delays can occur, voters should mail their completed ballots as early as possible. Please visit our official website for locations, hours and additional information.

Per statutory requirement 10ILCS 5/24B-9, 24C-9, Illinois counties must have a public test of their voting system and equipment for General Elections. For 2026 the test takes place Friday October 23rd@ 9:00 a.m.
