Tonight members of the Edwardsville Fire Department had the privilege of attending “The Chief Ray King Seminar” hosted by Love the Job Fire Training. This class was held in honor of the late Chief Ray King and recognized his lifelong dedication to firefighter training, professionalism, and the continued improvement of the fire service.

We would like to extend a sincere thank you to Love the Job Fire Training LLC and their founder/tonight’s instructor Kevin Tarapchak for hosting this important seminar and continuing to carry on Chief King’s legacy through education and training.

A special thank you also goes out to the West Side Mutual Aid Association for sponsoring tonight’s class, making it possible for our members and surrounding departments to take part in this valuable training opportunity.

We would also like to thank Wyoming Hose Co # 2 for generously donating the use of their hall to host the class. Although Chief King proudly served the Borough of Edwardsville, tonight was another example of the strong brotherhood within the fire service and the support shared among neighboring departments.

Lastly, thank you to all members of our mutual aid departments who took the time to attend tonight’s training session. The topic, “The Street Smart Engine Company,” provided valuable knowledge and practical insights that will help all of us better serve and protect our communities.

Training together strengthens our departments, honors those who came before us, and ensures we are always prepared when our communities call.

It is with deep sadness that the Edwardsville Borough Fire Department announces the passing of our former Chief, Ray King.

Chief King dedicated many years of his life to the Edwardsville community and this department, serving with pride, leadership, and an unwavering commitment to the safety of others. His legacy of service, mentorship, and brotherhood will not be forgotten and will continue to live on through those he led and inspired.

A member of the Department since 1964, King was named Assistant Chief in 1975, Deputy Chief in 1976, and Chief in 1988 to which he served as until 2016

We extend our heartfelt condolences, thoughts, and prayers to the King family during this difficult time. Please keep them, and all who had the honor of knowing Chief King, in your thoughts.

Rest easy, Chief. Your service and dedication will always be remembered.

What better day to unveil our second of two new logos coming to Local 840, than Labor Day!

Today we celebrate Labor Day to honor the achievements of the American labor movement and the contributions of American workers to the nation's economy, social progress, and well-being. Unions had an early start in the Wyoming Valley Mines. Starting as early as 1892 and leading up to The 1902 Anthracite Coal Strike. This major strike forced President Theodore Roosevelt to step in and force refusing Coal Companies to negotiate and go to arbitration. Workers later received a 10% raise, 9 hour work days and a system for future arbitration.

Our new logo brings together all of our eight towns under one common thing, anthracite coal. Throughout our Local, all of our towns had a rich coal mining history and what better way to embrace that history and tie all eight towns together than taking what our valley is made up of, and putting it on a logo. Valleys, Peaks, Coal Breakers from each of our towns and the Susquehanna River running smack dab through the middle of it all

Today Local 840 continues its hard work and protection of its members for competitive pay and safer work conditions.

Huge thanks goes out to the members who had a hand in designing this, and to Jobtown Graphics who made it all come to life.

Keep an eye out for some things to come in the future with our new logos!
