Last night, the NAACP Edwardsville Branch hosted an informative and empowering evening as we welcomed our guest speaker, Lisa Mathenia from the Madison County Assessment Office.

Ms. Mathenia provided valuable information about the property tax exemptions available to homeowners, veterans, senior citizens, and individuals with disabilities. Her presentation equipped attendees with important resources and knowledge that can make a meaningful difference for individuals and families throughout our community.

We extend our sincere appreciation to Lisa Mathenia for sharing her expertise and commitment to serving our community. We also thank our 1st Vice President Lt. Col. Walter Chase, Chair of our Veterans Affairs & Political Action Committee, for helping make this educational event possible.

A heartfelt thank you to all of our NAACP members and community guests who joined us. Your engagement and participation continue to strengthen our mission of educating, empowering, and advocating for our community.

Yesterday evening began with a special Grant Recipients Reception honoring our outstanding high school seniors. We were proud to celebrate these exceptional students for their academic achievement, leadership, community service, and commitment to excellence. Their accomplishments reflect the promise and potential of the next generation, and we are honored to support them as they pursue their educational and career aspirations.

Following the reception, we hosted an engaging and informative session as part of our Economic Empowerment Series, focused on “Surviving During Times of Economic Uncertainty.” Participants gained valuable insights into financial planning, strategies for adapting during challenging economic conditions, and resources designed to help individuals and families navigate uncertainty with confidence.

We extend our sincere appreciation to our 1st Vice President and presenter, Lt. Col. Walter Chase, for sharing a wealth of knowledge, practical tools, and real-world experience with our community. His presentation exemplified the NAACP’s commitment to educating, informing, and empowering individuals through economic awareness and opportunity.

A special thank you to all of our members, families, supporters, and community participants whose engagement, thoughtful questions, and active participation made the evening a success.
