Over the past week, members of the Edwardsville Fire Department have been proud to assist agencies across the state in response to ongoing wildfire incidents.

As highlighted in recent news coverage, crews from Edwardsville deployed alongside partners from Kansas City, Kansas and Leavenworth County to the Quail Road Fire near Salina, and a separate deployment with the Johnson County Taskforce, all working in coordination with local departments, the Kansas Forest Service, State Fire Marshal, and the Kansas National Guard to help contain the fires. ๏ฟผ

These deployments are a strong example of the importance of statewide coordination and mutual aid, ensuring resources are available wherever they are needed most.

We are proud of our personnel for their professionalism, dedication, and commitment to serving not only our community, but communities across Kansas.

Last night, Edwardsville Fire Department crews responded to a structure fire in the 500 block of Allcutt Avenue alongside Bonner Springs Fire Department and Kansas City, Kansas Fire Department.

Multiple patients were treated and transported from the scene. Incidents like this highlight how well the automatic aid system between our three departments works, ensuring help is already on the way and the right resources arrive quickly when theyโ€™re needed most.

Weโ€™re proud to work alongside our regional partners and appreciate the quick actions of dispatchers, police officers, firefighters, EMS personnel, and citizens who helped during this incident. ๐Ÿš’

Please keep the victims and their families in your thoughts.

Edwardsville, KS โ€” At approximately 7:35 PM last night, the Edwardsville Fire Department responded to a fire alarm at 531 S. 4th Street after callers reported the smell of smoke and a fire alarm sounding. Subsequent callers reported an active fire in an apartment.

Firefighters, working alongside the Edwardsville Kansas Police Department, advanced to the third floor to conduct a search for victims and extinguish the fire. No victims were found in the fire apartment, and the fire was brought under control at approximately 7:50 PM.

Automatic aid from regional partners, including the Kansas City Kansas Fire Department- KCKFD and Bonner Springs Fire Department, supported the response. Due to the number of residents and the need to assist individuals with functional needs, the incident was escalated to a second alarm.

A total of 56 residents were evacuated, with firefighters assisting 10 individuals from the building. Emergency medical personnel evaluated five residents and one police officer on scene, and three individuals were transported to area hospitals with minor injuries.

The fire was contained to the apartment of origin; however, smoke affected other areas of the building. Property management deemed the building temporarily uninhabitable pending remediation to ensure safe air quality.

Several displaced residents were relocated to the Edwardsville Community Center with assistance from Edwardsville Public Works and the American Red Cross. Other residents were able to secure alternative temporary lodging. Wyandotte County Emergency Management assisted with transportation coordination from the Unified Government of Wyandotte County and Kansas City KS and interagency communication.

No further information is available at this time. Media inquiries may be directed to the Edwardsville Fire Department.

๐Ÿš’ EFD Training Update ๐Ÿš’

This week, the Edwardsville Fire Department conducted hands-on training for all members who are being issued firefighter bailout kits. These kits include a personal escape harness, 50โ€™ fire-resistant rope, and a lowering device. This critical life-safety equipment is designed to give firefighters an emergency option if they become trapped or need to rapidly exit a structure.

The equipment was made possible through a grant from the Lt. Joseph DiBernardo Foundation. The foundation was created in honor of FDNY Lieutenant Joseph DiBernardo, who made the ultimate sacrifice in the line of duty. The foundationโ€™s mission is to improve firefighter safety by providing training, education, and life-saving equipment to fire departments across the country.

We would like to sincerely thank the Lt. Joseph DiBernardo Foundation for their continued commitment to firefighter safety, All Hands Fire for their support in making this project a reality, and the Kansas City Kansas Fire Department- KCKFD for allowing us to use their training facility.

Partnerships like these directly enhance the safety and preparedness of our firefighters, and ultimately, the communities we serve.

๐Ÿš’๐Ÿ”ฅ EFD Deployment Update ๐Ÿ”ฅ๐Ÿš’

Members of the Edwardsville Fire Department have been deployed with the Johnson County Wildland Taskforce to preposition in support of the Kansas Forest Service.

This taskforce brings together fire departments from across the region to strengthen wildfire response capabilities due to heightened fire risk in central Kansas. Prepositioning resources allows for faster response times and improved coordination should conditions escalate.

Weโ€™re proud to support our state and regional partners in protecting lives, property, and natural resources. Stay safe, and thank you to all agencies working together during this elevated fire danger period.

๐Ÿ•ฐ๏ธ Itโ€™s that time of year! As you adjust your clocks, donโ€™t forget to do one more thing that could save your life โ€” change the batteries in your smoke detectors.

Smoke detectors are your first line of defense in a fire. A few minutes of maintenance today can make all the difference tomorrow.

โŒ Replace any detector over 10 years old
๐Ÿ”‹ Replace batteries
๐Ÿงน Dust/clean your smoke detectors
๐ŸŽฏ Test alarms to make sure they work

Most home fire deaths happen in homes without working smoke detectors โ€” letโ€™s not take that chance. Help keep your family safe!

๐Ÿš‘ Training the Next Generation of Physicians ๐Ÿ‘ฉโ€โš•๏ธ๐Ÿ‘จโ€โš•๏ธ

Today, our department had the opportunity to work with first-year medical students from the University of Kansas School of Medicine. As future physicians, this experience gave them valuable insight into prehospital emergency medical care, seeing firsthand the critical role EMS personnel play in patient assessment, treatment, and transport.

Weโ€™re proud to help bridge the gap between prehospital and hospital care, and we appreciate the chance to share what we do with the next generation of medical professionals.
