Madison County Sheriff’s Office Joins Statewide Labor Day traffic safety effort focused on impaired, distracted and unsafe driving

(Madison County, IL) – The Madison County Sheriff’s Office is proud to be one of over 200 law enforcement agencies across Illinois participating in the statewide “Drive Sober or Get Pulled Over,” “Drive High. Get a DUI” and “Click It or Ticket” campaigns this Labor Day. From Aug. 14 through the early morning hours of Sept. 8, officers will be out in force, focused on stopping impaired driving, enforcing seat belt laws and reducing other dangerous driving behaviors.

Officers will also be enforcing seat belt laws as part of the “Click It or Ticket” initiative. Buckling up is the most effective way to prevent serious injury or death in a crash. Everyone in the vehicle — front seat or back — should be properly buckled, every trip.

In addition to alcohol, officers will be on the lookout for drivers impaired by cannabis and other drugs. Messages like “Drive Sober or Get Pulled Over” and “Drive High. Get a DUI” are part of a statewide education and enforcement effort aimed at saving lives.

“We want our community to enjoy the holiday weekend safely and responsibly,” said Captain Matthew Werner. “Plan ahead, use a designated driver, and never get behind the wheel impaired. These decisions save lives.”

This local effort is part of a larger statewide campaign supported by the Illinois Department of Transportation, which administers the “Drive Sober or Get Pulled Over” and “Click It or Ticket” campaigns with federal highway safety funds. The initiative is reinforced by IDOT’s “It’s Not a Game” media campaign running across radio, TV and digital platforms to highlight the deadly consequences of impaired driving.

Ruler Foods in Godfrey has once again come through for our deputies through their "Hydrate Your Heroes" campaign — collecting bottled water and sports drinks donated by customers like you, and gathered up by a Ruler Foods team that has made this a genuine labor of love.
To everyone who dropped a case in the donation bin: thank you. When our deputies are working a scene in July/August heat, or out on a long overnight call, that cold water matters more than you know.
They put up the sign that says it best — "They show up for us. Let's show up for them." This community did exactly that.
Thank you, Ruler Foods Godfrey, and thank you to everyone who gave. 🙏🚒🚓🚑

This July 9–12, we once again took to the road for our fallen HEROES.

Since 2005, Cycle Across Illinois has united riders, families, and communities to honor the law enforcement officers who gave everything in service to us — and to stand beside the loved ones they left behind. From Edwardsville to Chicago, every mile carried a purpose:

💙 To remember the heroes who made the ultimate sacrifice.
💙 To support their families on their healing journey.
💙 To raise funds for the Illinois Chapter of C.O.P.S. (Concerns of Police Survivors).

We are proud to have had members of the Madison County Sheriff's Office, active and retired, ride alongside other police agencies from Madison County in this procession.
