💚 Meet Darla — professional face-maker, part-time cowgirl, full-time sweetheart! 🐾

Just LOOK at that squishy little face! 😍 Darla is about 7 months old, around 45-ish pounds, and we’re not entirely sure what her breed mix is… but we’re pretty confident there’s some heeler in there somewhere! 😂

Darla is a goofy, loving girl who adores her people and loves being outside. She does wonderfully with other dogs and enjoys kids, too! ❤️

Now, about those cats… Darla has decided they are her very own personal herd. 😂 She isn’t mean to them at all — she just LOVES to chase them and try to keep them organized. Because of this, a cat-free home may be the best fit for her.

Darla is crate trained, keeps her crate clean, and just needs to be taken outside right away when she comes out. Her foster is working with her on confidence and leash skills, but Darla truly shines when she can roam and explore in a securely fenced area. 🌿

This sweet girl has so much love to give and is looking for a family who will help her continue to grow into the best version of herself. 🥰

Okay, friends. Gather ’round. Lottie has an important public service announcement before bedtime.

I’ve been reviewing the fine print on this whole “adopt a shelter dog” situation, and frankly, there are some side effects nobody warns you about. 👀

You may suddenly have a shadow who follows you to the bathroom.
Your camera roll may become 99% dog. 📸
You could experience uncontrollable cuddling.
Watching TV alone may become a distant memory.
And one day, without even realizing when it happened, you’ll look at that furry face and wonder how you ever lived without them. ❤️

Terrible, right?

So whatever you do, DO NOT adopt a shelter dog. 😉

Unless, of course, you’re willing to risk falling ridiculously, hopelessly in love.

Goodnight, humans. Consider yourselves warned. 🐾💤

🍂🐾 HELP US BRING FALL TO THE SHELTER! 🐾🍁

Fall is here, and we’d love to make the outside of our shelter feel warm, welcoming, and full of autumn spirit! 🧡🎃

We’re looking for donations of:
🎃 Pumpkins
🌼 Mums
🌾 Straw bales
🍁 Fall decorations
🧡 Scarecrows, signs, lanterns & other cute fall décor

Every little bit helps us create a cozy space for the dogs and cats waiting for their forever homes. 🐶🐱

🛠️ WE NEED A MACGYVER!

Or an engineer. Or a builder. Or just someone REALLY creative! 😅

Every winter, we have the same battle at ECAC: trying to protect our outdoor kennel areas from the bitter wind and snow.

Right now, we use tarps. And if you’ve ever tried hanging a giant tarp outside when it’s freezing cold and the wind is trying to send both you and the tarp into the next county…you understand the problem. 😂

The tarps are difficult to put up, they don’t completely block the wind, they’re hard to keep anchored, and we have to fight with them all over again the next winter.

We think there HAS to be a better way.

We’re dreaming of some type of sturdy, removable panels that could attach to the kennel fencing, possibly fold or break down into sections, and be reused year after year. Something our crew could put up before winter hits and take back down in the spring.

But here’s the problem:

We need someone to help us figure out HOW to build it! 🧰🔩

We’re looking for that person who sees these pictures and immediately starts thinking, “You know what would work…”

Once we have a workable design, we’ll need a crew of helping hands to build it, and we’ll work on getting materials donated.

And where are we going to store all these panels after winter?

We’ll worry about that problem when we get there. 😂

Right now, our priority is figuring out a better way to block that brutal winter wind and keep our crew and the animals in their care as protected as possible this winter. ❤️🐾

So…where are our MacGyvers? Our engineers? Our contractors? Our creative problem-solvers?

If you’ve got an idea, some expertise, materials you may be able to donate, or you’re willing to help build once we have a plan, WE NEED YOU!

Our animals go through A LOT of supplies, and we’re running low on a few everyday essentials! If you’d like to help the animals at Animal Control, we would greatly appreciate donations of:

🧻 Paper towels

🥫 Canned adult cat food

🍼 BOTTLE BABY DIARIES: AN UPDATE! 🍼

Our four little bottle babies are doing SO much better! 🥹❤️ They’ve come such a long way, and we’re so happy with the progress they’re making.

But they are NOT up for adoption yet! They still have plenty of growing to do before they’re ready to find their forever homes.

For now, they’re still completely dependent on formula — and unfortunately, we’re out. 😭

These babies have been doing really well on Fox Valley formula, and it is the only formula they have tolerated well, so we are desperately in need of more.

🍼 Fox Valley formula is at the very top of our wishlist right now!

If you’d like to help keep these tiny bellies full, purchasing formula from our wishlist or donating toward their care would mean so much to us. Every bottle makes a difference. ❤️

We’ll keep you updated as these four continue to grow, thrive, and get closer to finding their forever families. 🐾

Effingham County Shelter & Animal Control will be there with a few of our amazing adoptable dogs, and E.A.R.S. will have several of their adoptable dogs there too! That means LOTS of wagging tails, wet noses and potential love connections all in one place. 🐶🐾

🎉 DAX IS CAST-FREE IN TWO WEEKS! 🎉
The countdown is officially on, and we are gearing up for a major celebration! Our little guy’s leg is fully mended, which means he’s just two weeks away from shedding that cast and jumping straight into his next big chapter. 🥳🐾
If you’ve been following his recovery, you already know what a total sweetheart he is—playful, fantastic with other dogs and cats, and the definition of a loyal companion. But as Dax gets ready to trade his medical gear for a forever family, here’s what his future adopters need to know to make his transition a win:
🐾 He’s a true shadow dog: Dax doesn't do "alone time." Separation anxiety is a real challenge for him, and crating or leaving him solo leads to non-stop barking. He needs a household where someone is around most of the day—whether you're retired, working remotely, or able to take your co-pilot everywhere you go.
🐾 Patience opens his heart: New faces can make him a bit hesitant at first. He might pull back when meeting someone new, but once he realizes he’s safe, his affectionate, goofy personality comes pouring out.
🐾 The daily routine: He’s still working through house-training, and that soft Maltipoo fur needs routine grooming to stay mat-free (good news: he’s an absolute dream for his grooming sessions!).
Dax doesn't want space; he wants connection. If you're searching for a velcro pup who will stay by your side through every single moment of the day, he’s waiting for you. ❤️

This dog was found near the Watson/Mason exit on I-57.

We don’t know this dog’s story. We don’t know how they ended up there, how long they’ve been on their own, or if someone is out there desperately searching for them.

What we do know is that this dog looks like they’ve been through a lot. 💔

Someone has to recognize this dog. Maybe you know where they came from. Maybe you’ve seen them before. Maybe you know something that could help us piece together what happened.

🐯 Tripp — a handsome tabby boy who is ready to charm his way right into your heart!

Both boys are ready for their forever homes, and they’d really love for someone to stop scrolling and give them a chance. 🥹🐾

🍂 And they are STILL WAITING. 💔
