Eglin Fire Station 1 recently hosted a tour for the Exceptional Family Member Program (EFMP), welcoming 100 attendees, including 79 children. The event featured interactive demonstrations, including the operation of fire streams, a meet-and-greet with Sparky the Fire Dog, and an exhibition of our Aircraft Rescue and Firefighting (ARFF) vehicles. Following the tour, fire and life safety educational materials were given to all participating families. It is with great pride we serve such an amazing community!

This weekend, we gathered for Chief Clayton’s 4th Annual Crawfish Boil. What has become a cherished tradition for our department once again brought together our members, families, and friends for great food, plenty of laughter, and outstanding fellowship. Events like these remind us that the bonds we share extend far beyond the workplace. Thank you to all who attended and everyone who helped make this year’s boil another memorable success! We’re already looking forward to next year!

Recently, we had the opportunity to host Dr. Marko Perovic and Kayla Elliot from HCA Florida Fort Walton–Destin Hospital for a two day training program focused on the recognition and early management of acute stroke patients. This collaborative initiative strengthened the partnership between our emergency responders and hospital based stroke specialists while providing valuable education and hands-on learning opportunities for our members. More than 120 of our personnel participated throughout the two day event, reinforcing our continued commitment to training, professional development, and delivering the highest level of care to the communities we serve.

This month our members participated in an intensive live fire training evolution designed to challenge, refine, and strengthen the skills we rely on when seconds count.

Crews worked through realistic fireground scenarios incorporating offensive fire attack, VEIS, Rapid Intervention Crew (RIC) operations, and a down firefighter rescue involving cardiac arrest. These high stress, hands on scenarios push our firefighters to operate with precision, teamwork, and confidence under pressure.

More often than not, our job as firefighters is to protect and rescue the public. This training, however, focused on the critical life saving measures required to rescue one of our own, because on the fireground, we rely on each other just as much as those we serve rely on us.

Training like this isn’t just about repetition, it’s about building instinct, sharpening decision making, and ensuring that when the call comes, our response is immediate, coordinated, and effective!

National Telecommunicators Appreciation Week is April 12–18.
This week we recognize the dedicated professionals in our Emergency Communications Center who truly are the critical link of every emergency. To some, your work may seem to happen behind the scenes, but for us it’s front and center. Thank you for answering the call and being the voice that makes a difference when it matters most!

Some of our members had a great time this weekend celebrating the Month of the Military Child at the Purple Up Spring Fest at the Bayview Community Center.

Our crew enjoyed connecting with families, meeting members of the community, and giving tours of Engine 89. Events like these are a great reminder of how important it is to stay engaged with those we serve, especially the incredible military children and families who make up such a big part of our community.

Thank you to everyone who came out and spent time with us, we’re always proud to be a part of it.
