Happy National K9 Veterans Day! 🐾

Today we honor the brave K9 service members who have served alongside us with unmatched loyalty, courage, and heart. These incredible dogs have worked tirelessly in the line of duty -protecting, detecting, and comforting - and their contributions are immeasurable.

Let’s take a moment to salute these four-legged heroes and the handlers who dedicate their lives to them. Your service does not go unnoticed, and your bond is an example of true teamwork and devotion.

To all our K9 veterans - thank you for your service. You are heroes in every sense of the word!

MWD Sony Y007 proudly served at Kadena AB, Okinawa, Japan from 2016 to 2024 as a certified Patrol-Explosive Detector Dog. From 2019 to 2022, she was paired with TSgt Roberson, Kennel Master for Eielson’s K9 section, forming a partnership built on trust, dedication, and unmatched teamwork.

When TSgt Roberson received the call that Sony was retiring in 2024, she didn’t hesitate- she made sure she would come to Alaska to enjoy her well-earned retirement. Today, Sony is living her best life alongside her lifelong partner and best friend, a testament to the bond between handler and K9 that goes beyond service.

We're excited to invite all SFS spouses to a casual gathering. This is a great opportunity to connect with the command team, hear from two inspiring guest speakers about their experiences, and learn more about what your spouse does every day as a Defender.

MWD Jocky Z355 proudly served at Eielson AFB from 2017 to 2024. After years of loyal service, he retired due to Congestive Heart Failure and was lovingly adopted by TSgt Roberson. Though doctors gave him only three months, Jocky proved to be a true fighter, blessing everyone with 18 more unforgettable months.

Sadly, his condition has progressed, and he has let TSgt Roberson know it is time for him to rest. To honor his service, the 354th Security Forces Squadron held a final walkthrough of the unit—where Jocky was showered with treats, affection, an EOW call over the radio, and the playing of TAPS. Last Wednesday, he was surrounded by his Eielson K9 family, receiving one last bite before crossing the Rainbow Bridge.

Thank you, MWD Jocky Z355, for your unwavering loyalty, courage, and service. You will be deeply missed but forever remembered.
