CSA San Diego County

CSA San Diego County CSA San Diego County actively defends equal housing opportunity. For 50 years we have advocated for Fair Housing and mediated tenant-landlord issues.

Other issues CSA addresses include: hate crime prevention, civil rights of first generation immigrants, human trafficking, youth education, and voter education. Fair Housing: We ensure protection under fair housing laws that address discrimination and harassment. We can assist in handling a fair housing dispute and completing the forms needed to file a claim with the Department of Fair Employment

and Housing (DFEH). Services include: Fair housing counseling and dispute mediation, educational fair housing seminars for tenants and landlords (English and Spanish), services to tenants, landlords, and apartment managers, real estate and rental practice discrimination audits, and free rental housing handbooks in English, Spanish, and Arabic. Fair housing exists in a community when individuals of similar incomes have the same range of housing choices regardless of race, color, ancestry or national origin, religion, gender, disability, marital status, sexual orientation, source of income, or other arbitrary factors. A violation of fair housing is defined as any action, omission, or decision that limits housing choices based on the protected classes defined above. If you think you have been a victim of illegal housing discrimination, we can help you file a complaint with the Department of Housing and Urban Development (HUD) and the DFEH. Advocacy in Education: We promote social justice for all students as well as provide
assistance in case of discrimination based on the protected classes. We also chair the East County Education Consortium, a non-partisan coalition dedicated to increasing the educational opportunities and achievements of the economically and educationally disadvantaged. We work with parents of students attending schools in the Grossmont High School District and the El Cajon Valley Union School District, supporting them in their efforts to advocate for their children’s best interests at school. Our main goal is to emphasize and promote the curriculum, a set of rigorous courses which prepare students with the essential skills for college and a career. Human Trafficking and Labor Exploitation: We provide support and assistance for victims of human trafficking and labor exploitation. Services include: counseling/crisis intervention. Network of services that provide: compensation for damages, immigration assistance, eligibility for social services, and legal representation. Hate Crime: We seek to address hate crimes and hate incidents in East County. Services
include: Support to individuals who have experienced a hate crime or hate incident, collaboration with law enforcement to document and prosecute hate crimes, and prevention strategies to address hate crimes and hate incidents. We also chair United for a Hate Free San Diego, an organization striving to educate and model acceptance and respect for differences in the County of San Diego. Immigration Rights and Education: We provide assistance and information about rights and resources available to the immigrant community of San Diego. Services include: support to victims of immigration (ICE) raids, and citizenship and voter’s education. We are also an active participant of the San Diego Immigration Rights Consortium, which provides legal assistance and resources to immigrants.
