Even the most sophisticated cybersecurity defenses can be unraveled by a breakdown in vendor management.

In late September, extortion group ShinyHunters claimed responsibility for breaching the FBI’s recruitment platform, exposing 2 to 3 terabytes of sensitive employee and applicant records. But the intrusion did not bypass top-tier government defenses, it traced back to a contractor failing to implement a critical security patch on its HR management platform.
