🚌 “Sit and slide! Sit and slide!” This week, ECESD Transportation visited schools across the District to teach students important school bus safety procedures through hands-on evacuation drills.

Students (and a few teachers!) practiced how to exit a school bus safely in an emergency, building confidence and learning what to do when every second counts. These photos capture the action at Imperial Valley Home School Academy and Harding Elementary School!

A big shout-out to Transportation Supervisor Tony Zamora and his A👏🏻M👏🏻A👏🏻Z👏🏻I👏🏻N👏🏻G team for visiting our schools and helping ECESD students stay safe on every ride!

🧡🌻🐝 Sunflower Elementary School and their neighbors at Imperial Valley Home School Academy celebrated Unity Day together for the first time, bringing the Suns and Bees together for one important message: NO BULLYING, ANYWHERE, AT ANY AGE!

And of course, COCO joined the fun! Coco says, “Woof woof! Be sweet, spread kindness, and make every buddy feel loved. No room for bullies in this doghouse!”

A big shout-out to all the Sunflower staff, Board Member Eddie Hernandez, and our local police and fire departments for being part of this special day!

⭐️ Superintendent Castro’s Student Leadership Team held its first meeting of the school year, where students shared ideas, learned about school performance through the school dashboard, and discussed upcoming activities, including school visits and the Christmas Parade. Superintendent Ruben Castro was joined by Marco Arellano, Joy Ceasar, and Maria Ambriz from Educational Services as students explored ways to make their voices heard across ECESD.

At exactly 10:15 a.m., ECESD schools, departments, and offices took part in the Great ShakeOut. The districtwide drill was coordinated to take place simultaneously across ECESD.

We had the opportunity to visit Lincoln School and see the preparation in action. Students and staff did an excellent job following directions and working together throughout the exercise. Director of Safety John Beltran was also present to observe the drill.

A special thank-you to Principal Ms. Perez for her leadership and for welcoming us behind the scenes. We also recognize the Safety Department for coordinating this districtwide effort and helping keep our ECESD Family prepared for emergencies.

📚 Last week’s Professional Development Day brought ECESD staff together for a day of learning, collaboration, and professional growth. ECESD is investing in the next generation of school leaders through the Aspiring Certificated Leaders Academy (ACLA).

The academy kicked off with a session led by Superintendent Ruben Castro, launching a professional learning experience designed to help ECESD staff strengthen their leadership skills, expand their knowledge, and prepare for future leadership opportunities within the District.

Throughout the academy, participants will learn from district leaders and explore topics including instructional leadership, school site operations, budgeting, LCAP, SPSA, student discipline, suspension and expulsion processes, human resources, employee evaluations, communication styles, public speaking, school culture, difficult conversations, and much more.

Open exclusively to ECESD staff, ACLA offers an opportunity to learn, grow, and develop the skills needed to lead school communities and make a positive impact on student success.

After a stormy weekend, the sun is shining over El Centro, and our schools and offices are ready for a new week!

A HUGE THANK YOU to our Maintenance, Operations, Transportation and Facilities (MOTF) team, led by Michael Reyla, for working before, during and after the storm to address leaks, replace ceiling tiles, unclog drains, clear parking lots and take care of countless tasks behind the scenes.

We also recognize Deputy Superintendent Kristy Curry and the department directors who stepped in to support these efforts. It was a true team effort to ensure our campuses were ready to welcome students and staff back today. To everyone who went above and beyond this weekend, THANK YOU! Your dedication keeps ECESD moving forward, rain or shine!
