▶️ The Imperial County APCD has issued an air quality alert due to harmful levels of Ozone pollution. The air quality alert is in effect on Wednesday, June 3rd from 7:00 a.m. to 7:00 p.m.

▶️ To protect your health, check air quality levels and act as needed: When Air Quality Index (AQI) levels are Orange (Unhealthy for Sensitive Groups), sensitive groups should limit extended or intense outdoor activity. When AQI is Red (Unhealthy), everyone may experience health impacts. Sensitive groups should avoid extended time outdoors. When AQI is Purple (Very Unhealthy), sensitive groups should avoid all outdoor physical activity. Everyone else should avoid extended or intense outdoor activity. When AQI is Maroon (Hazardous), everyone should avoid all outdoor physical activity.

▶️ Ozone air pollution can cause serious health problems, including trouble breathing, asthma attacks, and lung damage. Everyone can be affected, but sensitive groups such as people with lung disease, older adults, people who are pregnant, children, and those who spend a lot of time outdoors are at greater risk.

On May 13, 2026 the Imperial County Air Pollution Control District (ICAPCD) and Air Justice joined Southwest High School's Eagle Jumpstart event to welcome new coming and returning students for the upcoming school year. Various Career Technical Education (CTE) classes were explored such as first responders, dental, and many more.

▶️ The Imperial County APCD has issued an air quality alert due to harmful levels of particle pollution from blowing dust. The air quality alert is in effect from Tuesday, May 26 at 3:00 p.m. through Wednesday, May 27, 2026 at 11:00 p.m.

▶️ Particle pollution can get deep into the lungs and cause serious health problems such as asthma attacks, heart and lung disease symptoms, and increased risk of lung infections.

▶️ Everyone can be affected, but sensitive groups such as people with lung or heart disease, older adults, people who are pregnant, children, and those who spend a lot of time outdoors are at greater risk.

Imperial County APCD is aware of a vehicle and structure fire near W. 2nd St. & Cesar Chavez Blvd. In Calexico, CA. Local fire departments are currently responding to this fire.

Join the County of Imperial, Assembly Bill (AB) 617 Community Steering Committee (CSC) of Calexico-Heber-El Centro Corridor and the Imperial County Air Pollution Control District for the Heber Townsite Improvements Phase II Paving Project Ribbon Cutting Ceremony. The Heber Townsite Improvements Phase II Paving Project will bring new sidewalks to the community to not only reduce emissions but also increase safety for pedestrians and commuters. The Ceremony will include special guests from the County of Imperial and AB 617 Community Steering Committee Members.

Imperial County APCD is aware of smoke from a brush fire near Finney Road and the East Highline Canal, east of Brawley, CA. Smoke is currently traveling south/southeast toward the open desert. The Imperial County Fire Department is currently responding to this fire.

‼️ Air Quality Alert in Imperial County for May 16, 2026 ‼️

▶️ The Imperial County APCD has issued an air quality alert due to harmful levels of particle pollution from blowing dust. The air quality alert is in effect on Saturday, May 16 from noon to midnight.

▶️ In areas directly impacted by high levels of windblown dust, limit your exposure by remaining indoors with windows and doors closed and avoiding vigorous physical activity.

▶️ Run your air conditioner or an air purifier. If temperatures allow, avoid using whole house fans or coolers that bring in outside air.

Join us Monday, May 18th for our AB 617 Community Steering Committee meeting for North-End Brawley-Westmorland-Calipatria Corridor!
This Committee will employ proven and innovative strategies to reduce exposure to air pollution in the Cities of Brawley-Westmorland-Calipatria. Attendees will also have an opportunity to speak to air quality and community experts from local and state agencies.
A live video stream will be posted on this page shortly before the meeting begins on May 18th @ 5:30pm.
