On Saturday June 13, 2026, Imperial County Sheriff's Deputies assigned to the Winterhaven Sub-Station conducted a bicycle stop on a male subject for a traffic violation. A consensual search of the male subject, who was later identified as Matias Nieto (46), revealed he was in possession of (6) small black baggies of approximately 1.0 grams of suspected m**h each. Nieto was arrested and search incident to arrest was conducted. The search unveiled he was in possession of (3) clear plastic bags of suspected m**h, weighing 30 grams, 25 grams and 4.5 grams. Nieto was also in possession of a self-built m**h pipe and 22 grams of ma*****na.

An interview was conducted by Deputies, and it was concluded that Nieto was in possession of m**h for sales. A Criminal History Record was conducted on Nieto with the assistance of ICSO Dispatchers which showed prior narcotics convictions. Nieto was transported to the Imperial County Jail where he was booked for Possession of Narcotics with Priors, Possession for Sales, Transportation of Narcotics, Possession of M**h, and Possession of Drug Paraphernalia.

Niland, CA – On Friday, May 22, 2026, the Imperial County Sheriff’s Office hosted a community graffiti clean-up event in Niland. Imperial County Deputy Sheriffs and Niland community volunteers came together to paint over graffiti that has increasingly impacted the area over time.

The Imperial County Sheriff’s Office extends its sincere appreciation to the Niland community who volunteered their time and effort to improve the community. We would also like to thank Realtor Estela Gonzalez of Coldwell Banker/The Wilkinson Team, and Mac Lucero for generously donating paint, supplies, and equipment that made this event possible.

Additionally, we extend our gratitude to Yeyas Market in Niland and Eddy Ateek for providing lunch to volunteers and participants.

Graffiti is not only an eyesore that negatively affects the appearance of our communities, but it is also a crime. Individuals who maliciously deface property with graffiti may be subject to arrest and prosecution pursuant to California Penal Code Section 594(a) – Vandalism.

The Imperial County Sheriff’s Office remains committed to working alongside our communities to improve quality of life, promote neighborhood pride, and keep Imperial County clean and safe for all residents.

A Town Hall meeting was held at the West Shores Community Center on Saturday, May 23rd. During the Town Hall meeting West Shores community members had the opportunity to voice their concerns. Thank you to the following agencies that attended the meeting: Imperial County Area Agency on Aging, Imperial County Fire, California Highway Patrol, Imperial County Public Works, County Board Supervisor Ryan E. Kelley and Assemblyman Jeff Gonzalez.

During the month of May, our School Liaison Officers (SLOs) proudly hosted World No To***co Day activities at the Imperial County schools, including Seeley Elementary, Corfman School, McCabe Elementary, Holtville School District, Magnolia School, Mulberry School, Meadows School, Grace Smith, Heber Jr. High, and Dogwood Elementary.

Through engaging activities, presentations, and student participation, our SLOs were honored to promote healthy, to***co-free lifestyles while building positive connections with students throughout the county. Thank you to all of our school partners for helping make these events a success!

To***co Prevention Week

All week long, the Imperial County Sheriff’s Office School Liaison Officers (SLOs) will be sharing informational posts focused on to***co prevention.

The Imperial County Sheriff’s Office is proud to kick things off by introducing School Liaison Officer Cami Corfman. SLO Corfman joined the Sheriff’s Office in July 2025. In her role, she serves as a vital link between the Sheriff’s Office and the county schools, helping maintain strong communication and collaboration.

SLO Corfman works with several schools across the county, including Mulberry Elementary School, Magnolia Union Elementary School, Meadows Union Elementary School, Grace Smith Elementary School, Heber School, and Dogwood Elementary School.

She enjoys spending time on campus and engaging with students and staff. Reflecting on her first nine months in the position, SLO Corfman shared: “Getting to interact with all our amazing county school students and staff while educating them on the importance of to***co prevention has been incredibly rewarding.”
