The El Centro Fire Department continues to support wildfire response efforts across California and throughout the region during the 2026 fire season.

ECFD currently has a Type 6 engine staffed with three personnel, along with a Strike Team Leader, assigned to the Timber Fire in Monterey County, in the Los Padres National Forest southeast of Loma Vista. The Timber Fire began on August 8 and is currently just under 13,000 acres with 26% containment.

The current ECFD crew is approximately one week into this deployment after relieving the department’s previous personnel, who had reached the end of their allowable deployment period. That crew was initially assigned to the Gann Fire near Valley Springs in Calaveras County before being reassigned to the Timber Fire, where they continued operations until the personnel swap occurred.

In addition to the Timber and Gann Fires, El Centro Fire Department personnel have supported several other significant wildfire incidents this season, including the Rock Fire in the Poverty Hills area of Inyo County, the Pocket Fire north of Sedona, Arizona, and the Grasshopper Fire in Wasco County, Oregon, east of Mount Hood.

These deployments reflect ECFD’s continued commitment to the statewide and regional mutual aid system, providing personnel, equipment, and leadership resources to communities in need while maintaining emergency response capabilities at home.

We are proud of our personnel representing the El Centro Fire Department and wish all firefighters currently deployed a safe and successful remainder of their assignments.

⚠️ ROAD CLOSURES – DOWNED POWER LINES ⚠️

The City of El Centro is advising the public of temporary road closures due to downed power lines.

🚧 The following areas are currently impacted:

• Bradshaw Avenue from Imperial Avenue to Waterman Avenue
• Intersection of Cottonwood Drive and Yucca Drive
• Intersection of Imperial Avenue and Bradshaw Avenue

⚠️ Please stay away from these areas and use alternate routes. Do not approach or attempt to move downed power lines.

Crews are working to address the situation. Additional updates will be provided as conditions change.

⚠️ DUST STORM WARNING ⚠️

The National Weather Service in Phoenix has issued a Dust Storm Warning for southwestern Imperial County, including El Centro, until 5:30 p.m. today.

A wall of dust from a severe thunderstorm near Calexico is moving through the Imperial Valley, bringing near-zero visibility and wind gusts exceeding 50 mph.

🏠 If you are currently indoors, please remain indoors and avoid unnecessary travel until conditions improve.

🚗 If you have family or friends who may be preparing to leave, please let them know about the dangerous conditions. Motorists should NOT drive into a dust storm.

⛈️ Strong to severe thunderstorms are also possible behind the wall of dust.

Conditions are changing quickly. Stay indoors, stay alert and continue monitoring weather updates.
