The department provides a full range of services to the community through three divisions: Field Operations, Administrative and Support, and Special Operations. The department offers many opportunities for professional growth including: Investigations, Field Training, Hostage Negotiation Team, Special Response Team, and K9. Although our divisions have separate functions and responsibilities, it is the goal of the department to provide professional service delivery of the highest quality, which will form a sense of pride and satisfaction in all members of our community.

For the first time since 2019, we’re excited to once again offer our Community Police Academy!
Have you ever wondered what really happens behind the scenes at your police department? This FREE, 8-week program gives community members an inside look at the people, training, equipment, and decision-making that go into keeping El Cerrito safe.

🗓️ Wednesdays, September 9 - October 28, 2026
🕰️ 6:00-8:30 pm

National Night Out is almost here 🎉

National Night Out is a great opportunity to meet your neighbors, connect with first responders and City representatives, and help strengthen the partnerships that make our neighborhoods safer.

Congratulations to Officer Will Sepe, who was recognized at the recent Mothers Against Drunk Driving (MADD) Awards for his outstanding efforts to keep our community safe. Officer Sepe made 27 DUI arrests in 2025, demonstrating his commitment to removing impaired drivers from our roadways and helping prevent impaired driving crashes. We are proud to celebrate this well-deserved recognition and thank him for his dedication to public safety.

Yesterday, the El Cerrito Police Department initiated a Silver Alert after a woman living with dementia was reporting missing. We would like to extend our sincere thanks to the Contra Costa County Sheriff’s Office Search and Rescue Team for their assistance. Their volunteers quickly responded and provided valuable support during the search effort. We are grateful to report that the missing woman was located and is safe. Thank you to our law enforcement partners, volunteers, and community members who helped bring this incident to a successful resolution.

🚔🎉 National Night Out is Coming to El Cerrito! 🎉🚔

National Night Out is an annual community-building event that brings neighbors together with law enforcement to strengthen relationships, promote neighborhood safety, and build a stronger community.

In El Cerrito, residents celebrate by hosting neighborhood block parties, gatherings, and get-togethers with friends and neighbors.

Yesterday, members of the El Cerrito Police Department proudly participated in the Law Enforcement Torch Run for Special Olympics Northern California.
Our team picked up the Flame of Hope from Richmond Police Department and carried it forward to Albany Police Department, continuing a tradition that represents unity, inclusion, and support for Special Olympics athletes.
We participate because we believe in showing up for our community and for the athletes who inspire us with their determination, courage, and perseverance every day. 💙🔥

The Inner Perspectives program focus on leadership, personal growth, communication, and strengthening connections within the department and our community. Last night, the El Cerrito Police Department was proud to attend the City Council meeting where our 2025 “Of the Year” recipients were officially recognized.

These awards recognize the dedication, professionalism, and heart each of these individuals brings to our department and community every day. Their commitment to public service helps make El Cerrito a safer, stronger city.
We also want to thank the City Council for taking the time to recognize our staff and volunteers and for their continued support of our department.

Welcome to the team! Please join us in congratulating our newest officers — Officer Baca, Officer Dadul, Officer Kim, and Officer Saephan — who graduated the academy last Friday and are officially joining the El Cerrito Police Department family.
