BAYAC AmeriCorps

BAYAC AmeriCorps National service program serving SF Bay Area youth since 1994.

With a focus on youth development and youth services, BAYAC AmeriCorps provides full-time service opportunities in partnership with schools and community-based organizations throughout the San Francisco Bay Area. As part of AmeriCorps, a federally funded national and community service program, BAYAC Members commit to a year of service in the Bay Area's most high-need communities, working to provid

e youth with opportunities for meaningful engagement, skill building, and emotional and social development. Members receive training and professional development as they serve essential site staff roles, providing direct service and consistent support to youth in a variety of ways, including one-on-one academic tutoring, workshops and classes, college and career counseling, and case management.

Jack is serving as a Health Educator with the City of Berkeley - Berkeley High School Health Center. We are grateful for his contributions to the development of our young people. He shares about working with his host site this year stating: “My experience as a Health Educator at the Berkeley High School Health Center has been enriching and deeply rewarding. Learning from clinic staff and contributing to the health and well-being of Berkeley High students has been especially meaningful, and I will bring this experience with me as I pursue a career in adolescent research and public health.” We can’t wait to follow his life after AmeriCorps career journey too!

We are pleased to have stellar “Stella” on our team! Stella is serving with our host site Hobbs Academy, a school providing academic instruction, support services, and child care for parenting students, with the Alameda County Office of Education. She brings with her a variety of life experiences that make her a great role model for youth! She states it best as she shares: “This journey of emotional growth has shaped my ability to connect authentically with people from diverse backgrounds and is one of my greatest strengths. It has taught me to approach new environments with empathy, openness, and adaptability. As a BAYAC AmeriCorps member, I look forward to applying these qualities by supporting youth in navigating their own identities, challenges, and goals, while learning from the communities I serve.” Proud to have you a part of our cohort Stella!

Nour has been serving students in San Francisco as a BAYAC Member placed with 826 Valencia. Through her AmeriCorps journey she looks forward to gaining more skills as an educator and to exploring new strategies for the teaching of language and writing in a non-profit setting. She has always admired 826 Valencia’s programs for instilling in young people a sense of pride in their voices and writing skills. We are thrilled to see her excel there and grow as a leader!

Shayla has been an amazing AmeriCorps Member serving with 826 Valencia in San Francisco this year! She is a huge advocate of youth and puts it best when she shares why she wanted to do a year of service with BAYAC: “I am passionate about working with youth because they inspire me to do my best and give my best work. I learn from them how to listen better, to notice, to open up my perspectives, to be curious and to play. They push me to give my best effort in order to see the growth from them, and it is worth the effort to see their growth and ability change over time as a fulfilling and remarkable endeavor. It is a gift to be able to teach our future leaders.”🧡💙
