Our lineup of Summer programs is just about to start— make sure you don’t miss out! 📖☀️

These events are held as part of Plant a Seed, Read: Summer Reading Challenge 2026! This is an all-ages program embracing learning as a growing process. A farm grows food that nourishes our bodies; a library grows ideas that nourish our minds. Sow the seeds of knowledge with storytimes, art classes, book discussion groups, STEM projects, and more!

Get ready, bookworms: the Summer Reading Challenge is just around the corner! ☀️📖 Registration is now open and you can start earning points on June 1. To participate, log your reading (by time spent reading OR by number of books completed) and Beanstack will calculate your points and let you know when you’ve earned a prize.

We hold this program every year to encourage community members of all ages to read more and to have fun doing it! Numerous studies show that students who read for pleasure during school breaks retain more of what they learned in the previous year and perform better when school resumes in the Fall compared to their peers who do not read. Those of us beyond our school years benefit from reading as well, reporting better recall, higher quality sleep, and lower stress levels.

This year’s summer reading theme is Plant a Seed, Read! This all-ages program embraces learning as a growing process. A farm grows food that nourishes our bodies; a library grows ideas that nourish our minds. Sow the seeds of knowledge with storytimes, art classes, book discussion groups, STEM projects, and more—everything you need to put down roots and bloom.

📢REMINDER📢 there will be no storytime at EDH Library for the rest of the month. Our Community Room is being prepared for use as a vote center, which will open for voting starting this Saturday, May 23 at 8:30 am (note that the library itself will be closed for Memorial Day at this time). Storytime will resume with its special summer schedule starting on Tuesday, June 9 at 10 am.

In the meantime, anyone missing storytime is encouraged to try out storytime at Cameron Park Library or El Dorado County Library 📚 You can also borrow one of our storytime kits to have storytime at home!

Thank you everyone for your understanding. We look forward to seeing you again in June!

This tiny pebble (about 2 cm diameter) was placed in our automated book drop earlier this week where it got stuck in the conveyer belt and took the book drop out of order for two days. We just wanted to take this moment to remind everyone to keep an eye on your little ones around the book drop and to not let them put anything except books through the door (even though we know it’s really, really fun 😅).

Fortunately, the damage wasn’t permanent and everything is now back to normal. Thanks everyone for your help keeping the Beast (yes, that’s what we call it) happy and healthy!

Just in time for summer, Fantasy Book Club is cooling off in the wintery world of THE BEAR AND THE NIGHTINGALE by . Join us as we discuss this story of Vasilisa, a young woman with supernatural sight, who struggles to protect the folk spirits of her rural village in a modernizing world. With the arrival of a cruel stepmother, a blue-eyed frost demon, and a dark force emerging from the forest, Vasilisa finds herself living out a fairy tale of her own. Lyrical and atmospheric, this book is perfect for fans of Madeline Miller and Naomi Novik.

Fantasy Book Club meets the second Thursday of every month at 5:30 pm at EDH Library. New members are welcome!
