Our recent weather conditions have been less than ideal for a lot of things, unless you're blue-green algae. Blue-green algae, also known as cyanobacteria, blooms in freshwater where environmental conditions make it possible for these organisms to grow and replicate rapidly. Conditions that are typically promote blue-green algae blooms include warm weather, lots of sunlight and the presence of nutrients in the water, which are often associated with agricultural run-off.
Blue-green algae can be harmful to pets and livestock. If you suspect you have a problem, we can send a water sample to k-state for confirmation.

Congratulations to our Butler County 4-H Senior team who recently completed at the State 4-H Livestock Sweepstakes event. Highlights include:

Livestock Judging - 42 teams, 220 individuals

Cami M. 12th coverall, 8th Reasons, 5th in sheep, 17th beef, 44th swine, qualified for All Star Team tryouts
Cora B. - 5th in placings, 43rd swine
Gabe O. - 37th reasons, 60th swine
Team - 14th overall, 11th placings, 18th reasons, 12th sheep, 12th swine, 23rd beef

They tried a new event this year with the Livestock Skillathon. There were 32 teams and 180 individuals in the contest.
