Desert Dog Police K9 Trials & Public Safety Expo hosted by Arizona Law Enforcement Canine Association (ALECA) welcomes fans and followers to WestWorld of Scottsdale Sat., & Sun., Oct. 21 and 22, 2023, in the largest Police K9 competition in the country!

These furry, four legged officers will show off what it takes to be a canine in active duty in an action-packed two-day K9 competition!

Fans witness the astounding talent of 70 Canine teams from across the USA, as they take over the Tony Nelssen Equestrian Arena and test their skills through exhilarating on-field obstacles, simulating real life scenarios that law enforcement encounters daily.

Experience the action up close with challenges that include:
Daring handler protection
Rigorous apprehensions
Risky narcotic and explosives detection
Riveting tactical obedience
Astounding agility

The family-friendly event welcomes fans to explore the 117,000 square-foot, climate-controlled North Hall filled with more than 150 vendors for eating, drinking and discovering the latest in public safety tactics including interactive displays and demonstrations from SWAT, aviation teams, discovering the most recent advances in public safety vehicles and much more.

ALECA is the largest non-profit, canine organization in the country dedicated to Train, Educate, Equip and Support – TEES -- providing critical support to law enforcement teams and agencies throughout Arizona. El Mirage Traffic Restrictions
August 10-17, 2023

Greenway Road Restrictions
The south shoulder of Greenway Road will be closed just east of Dysart Road from 8:30 am to 3:30 pm through August 10th. Sidewalk closures along the south side will require pedestrians to cross to the north side at Dysart Road and/or Sunny Lane.

129th Avenue Restrictions
The lanes on 129th Avenue will be reduced in width between Corrine Drive and Aster Drive from 8:30 am to 4:00 pm through August 11th. The adjacent bike lanes will be closed during these times.

El Mirage Road Restrictions
• Roadwork will take place in the middle of El Mirage Road, just south of Santa Fe Lane through August 12th. Watch for construction crews in this area.
• Through August 17th, the easternmost northbound lane and adjacent bike lane will be closed from Peoria Avenue to Pueblo Drive from 8:30 am to 3:30 pm. The westernmost southbound lane and adjacent bike lane south of Desert Cove Road will also be closed during this time. The adjacent sidewalk will also be closed, one side at a time, so pedestrians must cross at Cactus Road or Peoria Avenue.
• Through August 18th, the westernmost southbound lane of El Mirage Road between Ocotillo Lane and Greenway Road will be closed from 8:30 am to 4:00 pm for utility work.
• On August 18th, the westernmost southbound lane and adjacent bike lane of El Mirage Road, just north of Cameron Drive, will be closed from 8:30 am to 4:00 pm for utility work. The sidewalk will also be closed at this location so pedestrians shall cross to the east side at Peoria Avenue or Cactus Road.

Thompson Ranch Road Restrictions
Through August 18th, the northernmost westbound lane between Mauna Loa Lane and Acapulco Drive will be closed from 8:30 am to 4:00 pm for utility work.

Cactus Park Utility Work
• Utility work will take place through August 11th from 8:30 am to 4:00 pm in the area bordered by Aster Street, 128th Avenue, 129th Avenue and Rosewood Drive. Parking will be restricted on one side of the street. Residents may encounter narrow lanes and/or sidewalk closures.
• Utility work will take place through August 18th from 8:30 am to 3:30 pm in the area bordered by Soledad Street, 127th Lane, 129th Avenue and Valentine Avenue. Parking will be restricted on one side of the street. Residents may encounter narrow lanes and/or sidewalk closures.

Olive Avenue Restrictions
• A shoulder closure will be in place through August 12th on the south side of Olive Avenue, west of El Mirage Road, to install a driveway.
• Vehicles have been pushed to the north side of Olive Avenue between Dysart Road and the 127th Avenue alignment and left turns are prohibited at all approaches to the Dysart Road intersection. This alignment will remain through December.

Dysart Road Restrictions
• Through September 1st, Dysart Road will be reduced to one lane in the northbound direction and 2 lanes in the southbound direction between Sweetwater Avenue and Soledad Street. Southbound left turns to Sweetwater Avenue will be prohibited. Vehicles shall continue south to Parque Del Sol.
• Vehicles have been pushed to the east side of Dysart Road between Northern Parkway and Peoria Avenue. Left turns are prohibited at all approaches to the Olive Avenue intersection and the north and south approaches to the Peoria Avenue intersection. This alignment will remain through December.
