Landscapes of Belonging: Chinese American Stories Across Our National Parks opens this Saturday, October 3.

This art and photography exhibit explores Chinese American history, identity, and belonging through stories connected to our national parks.

Join us for the opening reception and social:

October 3, 12:00 PM to 2:00 PM

The exhibit will be on view October 3 to 10. Free native plants will also be available from ainicalifornia native nursery during the reception!

Our air purifier application is back with a limited number of units available.

We will prioritize households in eligible San Gabriel Valley ZIP codes and residents living in CalEnviroScreen red census tracts. Applications are reviewed on a rolling basis while supplies last. Submitting an application does not guarantee that you will receive an air purifier.

Thanks to the generosity of our community and grant support, we're able to continue helping families improve their indoor air quality during wildfire smoke and other poor air quality events.

UPDATE: our call-to-action to attend the El Monte City Council Meeting tonight to provide public comment in support of Matilija Lending Library has been cancelled. The El Monte City Manager has agreed to meet with us. We will update everyone on the outcome of the meeting.

In the meantime, we are still accepting letters of support. Thank you, everyone!

For years, Matilija Lending Library has created space for community, culture, learning, and mutual aid in El Monte through free workshops, events, performances, teach-ins, and community programming.

Today, that work is being heavily limited by El Monte’s bureaucracy, code enforcement, and an overly complicated permit process that has left our private backlot largely unused.

We are not going away. We want to work with the City on creative solutions that support community spaces like ours.

Join us on June 10 at 7:00 PM at El Monte City Hall to provide public comment in support of Matilija Lending Library. If you cannot attend, please consider submitting a letter of support sharing why Matilija matters to you and our community.

Our Summer Sale is here at Matilija Lending Library from May 30 - June 13 on Saturdays from 1:00 PM - 5:00 PM.

We’ll have used and overstocked books, vinyl records, postcards, greeting cards, artwork, tote bags, pins, zines, stationery, DVDs, and more available at discounted prices.

This sale is also an important fundraiser for our space. Matilija Lending Library continues to face challenges around fundraising and programming due to ongoing issues with the city regarding use of our private backlot space. We want to keep our events free while we do our best to support instructors and artists. We've also been heavily involved with the data center fight and community defense support for over a year now.

Your purchases and donations directly help us cover bills, community programming, and advocacy work in the SGV.

In the coming weeks, we’ll also be asking community members to help advocate for more accessible community programming and push back against some of the restrictions impacting our space and events. Please stay tuned!

Our first matilija bloom of the season! Come by the next two Saturdays to check out the blooms! We're open Saturdays. 1-5pm. This year the bloom is going to be spectacular since we counted over the dozen bulbs already. Stay tuned for a volunteer day where we help w**d and clean our backlot to prep for summer organizing and programs.
