Today, as part of the Coalition, the BNHR marched in El Paso, Texas to demand for the immediate halt of Operation Lone Star.
“The racism, xenophobia, and inhumanity rooted within Gov. Abbott's Operation Lone Star must be put to an immediate halt. Today, Texas border communities came together to take a stand against the violence and cruelty that has been unleashed, and demanded immediate action from our federal and state governments,” said Fernando Garcia, Frontera Texas Organizing Project Coordinator.
Today's border-wide protest were organized by the Frontera Texas Organizing Project with participation from the Border Network for Human Rights, ARISE Adelante, La Union de Pueblo Entero, Border Workers United and the American Civil Liberties Union of Texas.

As our nation continues to bear witness of the damaging, violent, and horrific events Operation Lone Star (OLS) has unfolded at the Texas-Mexico southern border, the Coalition is hosting a border-wide actions on Friday, Sept. 1, 2023 against the anti-immigrant policies going in effect, the false narrative on the humanitarian crisis in our border communities, and resistance to Operation Lone Star (OLS).

Communities in El Paso will be joined by Presidio, Eagle Pass, and the Rio Grande Valley to send a message to our state and federal governments jointly.
Yesterday, the U.S. Border Patrol El Paso Sector released alarming numbers of migrant deaths.
Our current broken immigration system and inhumane border policies are responsible for these unnecessary deaths. It is time for Congress to through a humane and accountable border policy.
These deaths are not normal. We must do better.
This year the Border Network for Human Rights in its annual report on alleged civil and human rights abuses included concerns about DPS troopers.
“We are asking legislators to create some sort of commission to bring about accountability to DPS,” said Fernando Garcia, executive director of the BNHR.

Texas governor Greg Abbott sent additional state troopers to El Paso as part of Operation Lone Star, his nearly $10 billion border enforcement effort.This year, DPS troopers have been involved in a growing number of high speed chases while targeting smugglers. And, El Paso residents living in areas....
“We are calling on the State Department to launch a criminal investigation not only of that incident, but also multiple incidents under Operation Lone Star,” said Fernando Garcia, executive director of the BNHR.
“The buoys at Eagle Pass are part of that campaign of violence against our immigrant communities. I am glad the people of Eagle Pass are resisting.”

Calling it a financial failure and threat to the lives of asylum-seekers, a coalition of border groups on Tuesday renewed their demands for Texas Gov. Greg Abbott to end Operation Lone Star.

The Frontera Texas Organizing Project (FTOP), an initiative of the BNHR, will convene La Union del Pueblo Entero, Border Workers United, ARISE, ACLUTX, and the Eagle Pass Border Coalition at 1 p.m. CT in Shelby Park for a press conference.
👉🏽Texas Border Grassroots organizations will renew its call to Gov. Abbott to remove river buoys, concertina wire, box cars, and border wall from our Rio Grande.
👉🏽Additionally, the Frontera Texas Coalition will call on Gov. Abbott to cease and desist the continuation of Operation Lone Star, starting with the withdrawal of state troopers and the Texas National Guard from our communities.
