Join us for the 25th Annual Aging to Perfection Expo on Wednesday, August 19, 2026, from 9:00 AM – 2:00 PM at the El Paso Convention Center. Admission is FREE.

This event will feature over 80 exhibitors offering a wide range of services and products tailored to older adults, family caregivers, and adult children caring for aging parents. Attendees can take advantage of free health screenings, explore social and medical services, and discover resources that promote independence, well-being, and healthy aging.

Experts will lead informative presentations on the following topics:
The Price of Trust: Top Scams Affecting Older Adults – Presented by the El Paso Police Department
Your Home, Their Future, Made Simple: The Transfer on Death Deed – Presented by the El Paso County Attorney’s Office
Experience Behind the Wheel: Mature Driver Program – Presented by the Texas A&M AgriLife Extension Service

During the month of June, Adult Protective Services (APS) collaborates with community advocates across Texas to raise awareness of abuse, neglect and financial exploitation that the older adult population routinely faces. June 15th is World Elder Abuse Awareness Day. To show our support of the importance of raising awareness and the mission of Adult Protectives Services, the Rio Grande Council of Governments staff wore the color purple. The Rio Grande Area Agency on Aging has prepared the Area Plan on Aging for Fiscal Years 2027–2029.

This plan identifies the needs of older adults and family caregivers within the Rio Grande Planning and Service Area and outlines how the AAA plans to address these needs through the development and expansion of community services. Your feedback is important in shaping services for our aging community in the Rio Grande service region.

Rio Grande AAA Benefits Counseling staff will be in Alpine, Marfa and Presidio, TX on March 10th, 11th & 12th, to assist Medicare Beneficiaries enrolled in a Medicare Advantage Plan during the Medicare Advantage Open Enrollment Period. If you’re currently enrolled in a Medicare Advantage plan, this is your one‑time opportunity to make changes to your coverage. During this period, you can:
Switch from one Medicare Advantage Plan to another
Return to Original Medicare
Add a standalone Medicare Part D prescription drug plan (if you return to Original Medicare)
