Since many animals fear fireworks, the El Paso County Animal Welfare has a few safety tips to help protect your pets this 4th of July

- Make sure your pets are microchipped and have appropriate size collars with ID tags.
- Bring pets inside;
- Leave the TV or radio on to provide a distraction;
- Close the curtains or blinds
- Make sure they get plenty of exercise before dark;
- Check fencing to make sure pets cannot escape;

No day is ever the same at Animal Welfare! While on duty, Officer Lujan was dispatched to a call reporting an animal in distress inside a canal. Upon arrival, Officer Lujan sprang into action and was able to safely secure and rescue the pup who appeared severely exhausted and barely able to keep afloat.

While searching through Lost and Found pages, Officer Lujan came across a FB post where “Lacky” was reported missing.

Lacky was returned home much cleaner, rested and with a brand new microchip!

Thank you to the San Elizario Cross Country Team for reporting this incident and Officer Lujan for all your amazing work!

What an incredible ending! 🐾🐶❤️

We want to thank our community for the great response we had during our MICROCHIP EVENT SERIES! During the pop up series we hosted 7 Microchip events aimed to prepare pet owners ahead of 4th of July holiday.
