Fort Bliss Access Control Point Announcement
Fort Bliss will implement enhanced security measures across Fort Bliss beginning September 8, 2014.
The safety and security of Fort Bliss remains the commanding general’s number one priority.
These measures will afford greater safety and security to Fort Bliss and its employees, residents and visitors, while simultaneously providing the... greater El Paso community the opportunity to enjoy and use our great amenities.
All Department of Defense identification card holders and civilians possessing a valid state issued driver's license may access Fort Bliss through the following gates:
- Buffalo Soldier gate
- Cassidy gate
- Chaffee gate
- Biggs Main (formerly known as Sergeant Major) gate
- Old Ironsides (formerly known as Global Reach) gate
- Alabama gate
- Fred Wilson gate
Only DoD ID card holders can enter Fort Bliss through the following gates; all non DoD ID card holders will be directed to access one of the above mentioned all access gates:
- IBCT-North gate
- Sergeant Major North gate
- McGregor Front gate
- Jeb Stuart gate (5 a.m. - 9 a.m., and 2 - 6 p.m.)
- Constitution gate (5 a.m. - 9 p.m.)
- Sheridan gate (5 a.m. - 9 p.m.)
Commercial traffic will be restricted to Chaffee gate only.
The following gates will remain closed to all DoD and civilian traffic:
- Pershing gate
- Cemetery Pedestrian gate
- McGregor Rear gate
All vehicles and occupants entering Fort Bliss are subject to random searches and inspections, which has always been the case. Travelers should plan accordingly as access times to Fort Bliss might be increased during this time.
The following Special Weather Statement has been
released from the Fort Bliss Weather Station:
The Fort Bliss weather station is forecasting
thunderstorms and heavy rain Saturday, September 6
through Sunday, 7 September. Abundant moisture from
the remnants of Tropical Storms Dolly and Norbert is
expected to move into the region Saturday through late
Sunday presenting fuel for heavy precipitation.
Moderate thunderstorms are likely to develop in the
afternoon hours creating occasional, heavy downpours
and the threat of flash flooding in low lying, poor
drainage areas.
Expect total rain accumulations to be from 2 to 4 inches,
with higher amounts possible. Flash flooding and road
wash-outs may occur throughout the El Paso area,
Fort Bliss Reservation and the McGregor Range complex.
Visibilities are expected to be reduced to 3-5 miles
in precipitation but may be reduced to less than 1 mile
during periods of heavy rain.
- Avoid areas with fast moving water.
- Avoid flooded roadways and areas of pooled water
in which the water level is unsafe or unable to be
easily determined.
For further safety issues on this subject,
please consult with your local safety representative.
