Children's Grief Center of El Paso

Children's Grief Center of El Paso We are a children's bereavement center following the loss of a loved one.
The Children's Grief Center has served the El Paso area as an incorporated non-profit children's grief support service agency since 1995. The mission of the agency is to promote healing and emotional wellness for grieving children, teens and their families after the loss of a loved one by providing loving support and education. The Children's Grief Center is the only area agency specializing in and providing grief support services to children in the El Paso area. Our services are unique in that we offer grief support for children by children under the guidance of professionals and specially trained volunteer facilitators. Grief Center programs offer support groups and education specific to the needs of the grieving child and the needs of the family. Services are offered in the comfort of our offices and throughout the community including schools, churches, health and support service agencies. Our support groups are bi-lingual and culturally sensitive.

We are a non-profit organization that provides healing and hope in a safe and loving environment for grieving children, teens and their families following the death of a loved one. By sharing their experiences and feelings in a peer support group, families learn that they are not alone and that there is hope for their future. Our goal is to strengthen the lives of grieving children and families by providing loving support and life affirming skills in a safe environment. We value the conscious choice that families make in committing to the difficult work of grief and support them through their efforts.

Mission: Our mission is to help strengthen the lives of grieving children and their families by providing life affirming skills and hope for the future. Most children will have experienced the death of a loved one by the end of high school, some much sooner. The Center recognizes that children's grief is unique, and that grief ignored, can cause difficulties later in life: physically, emotionally and behaviorally. Unresolved grief in children and teens can cause depression, violence, truancy, eating disorders, alcoholism, drug abuse, anxiety and suicide. The Center helps provide life-affirming skills so that families may continue their lives with hope, confidence and strength.

Earlier today, our board met in person for the first time since quarantine measures were put into place. #Socialdistancing measures were taken to keep everybody’s health as the top priority.

It was great to discuss the current state of the Center and future plans for 2020. We are thankful for individuals and organizations who have continued to financially support us during these challenging times.

The #CGC of #ElPaso has continued to support the community as an #essentialservice over the last couple of months and will continue to provide #healing and #hope in a #safeandlovingenvironment for #grieving children, teens and their families; following the #death of a loved one.

Children’s Bereavement Center of South Texas is profoundly saddened by the inexplicable violence that has impacted both El Paso and Dayton this past weekend. The lives of children whose loved ones were killed or injured have changed overnight. The grief, anxiety and trauma is more than any child or teen should have to bear.

We offer prayers to all those affected and will be providing bilingual child grief workbooks and art therapy supplies to our sister center, Children's Grief Center of El Paso. Thank you for supporting the mission of helping children’s hearts heal.

It is a difficult and painful time in our community as we experience the loss of loved ones and friends, who died this past weekend in a senseless tragedy. The Children’s Grief Center is here to help with the grief of those persons impacted by the tragedy. We are here to advise and consult on ways to help our community through their grief.

God bless and watch over the grieving families and help us as we begin this difficult journey.

Please help us share this message so our community is aware of the resources available.

Posting a notice to bring attention to a book I wrote and illustrated. The book was written to help children cope with grief. Book Description Jacob’s Valentine is a beautiful uplifting story of how one little boy finds closure after the death of his mother. Death and grief are difficult for children to accept and understand. The story is written to help children at the time of the loss of a loved one. Designed to be read to a child by an adult, it will help start a conversation about their loss. The book will assist the child in finding a way to send a final message to the one they have lost.
