The Women’s Fund of El Paso was founded in 2004 to promote access to funding, information and networking to help women receive a better education, develop critical leadership skills and achieve personal economic growth. Since our inception, the Women’s Fund has awarded over $240,000 in scholarships for low-income single mothers and other women. We sponsor high school junior and senior girls for le

adership development programs. We continuously promote access to resources for women through our monthly e-newsletter and interactive website.

On this El Paso Giving Day, learn about our scholarship recipients and how your donation makes a difference:

"My name is Norma Orozco and I was one of the lucky nontraditional students to receive a Scholarship during the Fall 2020 semester. Around the same time, my VR case worker tackled my hearing impairment by setting me up with my first pair of hearing aids to help me through school and ultimately to land a job. I am happy to say that I graduated June 25, 2021 from Western Technical College. I also passed my CPC examination July 16, 2021, thus I am now certified by the AAPC. I am currently working as a Medical Biller and Coder, right in my field of study.

I am proud to say that my personal struggles and the pandemic which caused my furlough, have not deterred me. I did it!

And I am about to say something to you, which in the past I would not have dared think to be within my reach. I want to be my own boss. I want to have a Medical Billing business.

I share with you a proud moment captured in a photo with my mom. She's holding a chrysanthemum, in memory of my brother who passed away 2 months before this picture was taken.

Thank you, again, for the scholarship when I needed it the most."

The Women's Fund of El Paso inspires me so much as a young woman who is currently pursuing my own education. I truly believe that supporting and educating women is the backbone of a better society. And, since I’m always looking for media that shares this sentiment, I was so excited to have found this documentary recently that holds women at the heart of its message. The film is called The Revolution Generation: How Millennials Can Save America and the World, and it’s set to release later in the year. The trailer alone had me grinning ear-to-ear, and I’ll link it as well for anyone interested. The movie is all about how the younger generations, especially the educated and justice-driven of us, hold great value in the benefitting of society as a whole. Specifically, the film spotlights young women, both those who aim to create change, and those who are out there and doing it every day already. To see these brilliant young women thriving and defying odds the way the trailer depicts reinvigorates my hope for the future, which is why I wanted to share it with the remarkable women associated with this fund. I look forward to having women’s voices represented so wonderfully, and for others to see this and rise to action themselves. Once more, I thank all involved here for being such forces of good.
The Women's Fund of El Paso was founded in 2004 after a study found a great disparity of income and education among women in El Paso, including 38,000 single mothers. Through events like Power of the Purse, the organization has raised funds to award over $300,000 in educational scholarships to UTEP, EPCC and leadership development programs.
