#FirstPhotoChallenge 🙌 Samson came to us 4 months ago, and like many other large dogs in our care, he was overlooked for a long time. What really lied beneath that tough, blocky-headed exterior was a big cuddle bug. He went into a foster home in December just to get a break from the shelter, but after just a couple of weeks, his foster family knew that he was where he belonged!

If you fostered or adopted, let's see their transformation! Share your foster or rescue pet's first and most recent photo in the comments!

Sunday Funday Moment: El Paso boy raises $350 for El Paso Animal Center with peppermint stand - KVIA

We hope this story inspires and motivates you as much as it does for us!

In December, nine-year-old Jarvis set up a candy stand in the middle of Eastridge's famous Christmas light neighborhood displays, all to raise money for the shelter pets of El Paso Animal Services. When he visited us to drop off the money he raised, his love for animals and helping pets in need really shined through. We know this young animal lover is going to do great things and continue inspiring more young animal advocates like him!

EL PASO, Texas -- 9-year-old Jarvis McCulley has a love for animals. After hearing that the El Paso Animal Services Center was not receiving as many donations as they needed during the pandemic he knew he had to do something about it. “I got the idea because I read on the news that the El Paso

Enrichment Time with Cat-Lady Bertha

Thank you to the El Dorado High School Vet Science program who donated these awesome cat toy stockings, making our Cat Adoption room feel Christmasy all over again! Having toys available, whether homemade or bought, is super important to ensuring our shelter pets are able to express normal (playful!) behaviors as one of their 5 Freedoms! That's why Enrichment Time with Cat-Lady Bertha is our favorite time of the week.

Remember to tune in every Thursday for storytime or a virtual workshop with Cat-Lady Bertha right here on Facebook! And if you can't get enough of the fuzzy fun we bring every week, we have some great news! Our Education Program is now offering Kitty Reading Book Club again, as well as some other virtual classes for our younger animal lovers to get in on the fun! From Hissy to Lovey—A Foster Kitten

From Hissy to Lovey, a foster kitten's #TransformationTuesday story!

This little nugget came to us underweight and was so terrified at the shelter that he'd hiss, cower and shake from fear. Thanks to an awesome foster who stepped up to help this frightened kitty, just days later he's already enjoying toys and chin scratches, and is even starting to gain some weight. We're sure that in just a couple weeks of time, he'll be like a brand new kitten ready for adoption, that's if his foster doesn't fall in love with this fluffball first 😉

Fostering changes a shelter pet's life forever, even if it's just for a day, a week or a month! If you'd like to help save lives, sign up to become a foster at www.elpasoanimalservices.org/foster

Positively Special Kitties

🚨We have some positively special kitties that need your help!🚨

Harry Skywalker is a purr machine that will do anything for a good, long chin scratch. He is the sweetest, cuddliest ball of fur. Harry is FeLV+ (positive for feline leukemia) but even with FeLV, he can live a normal, happy life until the virus becomes active. Lifespan has the potential to be shorter, but we know that does not mean he is any less deserving of a loving home! Kitties who are positive for the feline leukemia virus can happily live with other species (dogs, bunnies and so on), but must be an only cat or live with other felines who are also FeLV+.

Gordon really has been dealt a tough hand, but that doesn't stop him from loving up all over you. Gordon also is FeLV+ and FIV positive, which is also not contagious to people, dogs, bunnies and so on, but would do best as an only cat in the home or with another FeLV+ and FIV positive kitties. He may only have three legs and be double positive, but he's got one big heart and is quick to snuggle up to anyone willing to give him love.

These kitties have the chance to live a happy life and we know they deserve to be adored, played with, snuggled, and learn what it's like to be a cherished member of a family. If you're able to give them a loving foster or adoptive home, reach out to us at [email protected].

01/23/2021

If you found a lost pet and you're able to help reunite them with their family, our Found Pet Resources page is your go-to for all kinds of helpful tips and resources. www.elpasoanimalservices.org/foundpetresources ➡️ File a Found Pet Report, view lost pets on our Pet Finder Map, download a 'Found Pet' flyer template, find microchip scanning locations and online tools to help you look up the microchip and more!

Studies have shown that the pet you found is only about 1-2 miles from their home, and they have a higher chance of being reunited if they stay within their neighborhood rather than being brought to the shelter. If you need support to foster a found pet, file a Found Pet Report and our Community & Pet Support team will be ready to assist!

In case you missed it, our very own Shelter Pawsident was sworn in yesterday during his Indoguration. He signed his pawprint on the 5 Freedoms, and hopes that by working together, finding a loving home for all shelter pets is pawsible! Frederick 'Freddy' Barkton represented the 'Adoption Party' in last November's election, but has not yet found a home to call his own! Now that he's Pawsident and everything, help us find Freddy a 'White House' of his own 💜

From one Pawsidential dog to another, congratulations to First Dog Major for being the first-ever shelter pet in the White House! It is a historic day for shelter & rescue pets across the nation. "This resembles the country's belief that rescue pets are just as deserving of a loving home." -Ramon Herrera, Interim Director. We're hoping Freddy will have his own Wags-to-Riches story soon, too!

Check out Casey's #TransformationTuesday!

Casey came to us with a hurt leg. While our medical team was tending to her injuries, we knew she'd only recover quicker in a loving foster home rather than a kennel at the shelter. Thanks to the power of fostering, Casey is receiving the care she needs and the love she deserves, while still receiving medical attention—and to no surprise, her foster family has already fallen in love with her and will be giving her a forever home once she's ready!

Give shelter pets a second chance and sign up to be a foster today! Whether they are recovering from injury or illness, or just needing a break from the shelter, there's a shelter pet needing your help! Sign up online at www.elpasoanimalservices.org/foster

You cast your vote last November, and now it's time to swear in Frederick Barkton (aka Freddy!) into his Shelter Pawsident Office!

Swearing Freddy in is Interim Director, Ramon Herrera, and Freddy has signed his oath to the 5 Freedoms. His hope is that all shelter pets will find a loving home under his pawministration—and even Freddy himself is looking for a 'White House' of his own!

MORE ON FREDDY:
It doesn't take much to make Freddy happy—give him a tennis ball and he'll zoom and prance around the yard to keep himself entertained! Then a jump in the pool, some pets and butt scratches as a cool-down.
His happy-go-lucky attitude is infectious and it’s not surprising that he’s a staff and volunteer favorite. If you're interested in welcoming Freddy into your home, send us a PM and we'll have our adoption team reach out for more information!

A few months ago, we began partnering with El Pasoans Fighting Hunger Food Bank to offer free pet food to families in need on a monthly basis. Since, then, we've given thousands of pounds of food to help keep our community's pets fed, and continue to do so thanks to food donations and help from the El Paso Chihuahuas Volunteer Pack and EPAS Volunteers!

This morning for #MLKDayofService, El Paso Chihuahuas staff and volunteers with the Chihuahuas Volunteer Pack, presented by Helen of Troy Careers, helped the El Pasoans Fighting Hunger Food Bank bag dog food for community distribution in conjunction with El Paso Animal Services

#1stpicchallenge This is Blanche DeBarko. We adopted her in 2019. I love my "old lady". She was such a happy dirty mess in her first picture and now she is a happy, healthy, funny lady. She has her own "room" her crate with her beds and the doors are always open so she can come and go however she feels. I cant explain how much I love her and I am so thrilled everyday that she is part of our family.

Found dog at Vista Del Sol & Paseo Grande. Microchipped. I contacted the microchip company. Per their records, her name is Lucy, Microchipped in 2019 from El Paso Animal Services, 2ish years old. I also contacted Animal Services, her microchip zip is 79905, not sure if thats current or not. Neither has been able to get a hold of her owner. I cannot keep her, she has jumped my wall twice now so I have her on a leash. Animal Services is picking her up today. If she is yours, contact Animal Services.

What are you doing to return calls! And also respond to emails, I have been trying to contact in reference to my monthly donation. No one has attempted to reach me, I have sent several email contact messages and left messages on the voice mail. Is there anyone responding to customer questions?
