Take precaution when starting your vehicle ❄️
With winter quickly approaching 🥶 Animal Protection Officer Ortiz wants to stress the importance of tapping on your hood and checking under your vehicle before starting your engine to make sure our feline friends that might be hiding underneath have a chance to escape and avoid injury. These small steps take less than 1 minute of your time but make a huge impact on saving the lives of our community cats!

Meet Simon & Garfunkel 🎶
Simon & Garfunkel have had it rough, in just the past two months they were found by our Animal Protection Officers on the outskirts of El Paso with broken legs and in desperate need of care. ❤️🩹
Thankfully, they were able to undergo surgery to amputate their legs and have a second chance at life. We think they were potentially hit by a car, but we’ll never really know for sure. All we know is that they are now healthy again and ready to go home! 🏡
Both Simon (Yellow Lab A51187197) and Garfunkel (Chinese Shar-Pei A51208294) are extra sweet and oh so playful - life on three paws does not slow them down! They are very friendly and love to run, have cuddles, go on walks and do all the doggie things that doggies do. 🐶 They get along with other dogs and people too!
Come by & meet them! We’re open everyday from 11am-6pm, located at 📍5001 Fred Wilson Ave.

Community and Pet Support - Pet Resources
One of our mottos at El Paso Animal Services and for our Community & Pet Support (CAPS) team is "Keeping Pets and Families Together"
We do this through numerous ways, but some of our most impactful are:
🐾Pet Wellness Events - We've served over 8,000 community pets with FREE vaccines and microchips through these events so far this year. It keeps pets healthy by protecting them from deadly diseases like parvo and distemper, and helps pet parents save money where they can.
🐾Free Microchips - Microchips help lost pets get home quicker, and so far this year, we've microchipped 16,099 pets! Our CAPS team and Resource Rovers work hard to make sure that any pet that needs a microchip, has a microchip!
🐾Pet Pantry - Often times, families that are faced with the tough decision to rehome their pet, it's often due to economic reasons. Food resources is one of the ways we help pets stay with their families during hard times. So far this year, our Pet Pantry program has distributed over 25,000 pounds of pet food to families in need
Help us keep homes whole, and consider donating to one of our many pet resource programs! You can donate monitarily or in-kind items a variety of ways, including our Amazon Wishlist, Cuddly Wishlist, dropping off donations at the shelter, or donate to our Friends of El Paso Animal Services fund! Find all the different ways you can help at ➡️ www.ElPasoAnimalServices.org/donate

Transport Bus Maiden Voyage
Last Saturday was the maiden voyage of our NEW Transport Bus, which took over 20 dogs to rescue partners in Arizona that could give them a better opportunity for adoption!
This new transport bus was approved by City Council in December 2019, and finally made its way to us this summer. Thanks to a donation from Best Friends Animal Society, we were able to also outfit the bus with the safest transport crates for our furry friends hopping on the bus! This addition to our Transport/Rescue program will allow us to make larger and longer ground trips to rescues needing lovable pets. Our previous van could only hold about 8-20 pets, depending on the size, where as this new transport bus can hold upwards of 80+!
We are looking forward to the opportunity of transporting more pets to rescues in area states like Arizona, New Mexico, Colorado, Texas and Oklahoma, to give more lifesaving opportunities for the thousands of animals that come into the shelter every year!
Also, special thank you to our AWESOME driver, Jesus from Sun Metro, who got our pups and transport team to and from safely!

Meet Betty & Otello—aka the Brindle Twins! You might recognize them from our Playgroup Live from earlier today.
They aren't really twins, but something these two pups have in common other than their coloring, is that both have been with us for over a year 😱
Betty came to us in MARCH 2021, and while she had a few close calls to a chance at a forever home or a rescue pull, it's been no cigar for this girl at no fault of her own—she's just been overlooked all this time. She's a bit spacey and gets distracted easily, which makes her goofy personality that much more endearing, but she has great playful energy, has been a star in playgroups at the shelter, and would even make a great hiking buddy!
Otello came to us in FEBRUARY 2021, and while he's had a couple of chances to take a break in a temporary foster home, no forever home has come for him yet. Unlike his social butterfly friend, Betty, Otello wants you to earn his love. It really doesn't take much though, as he's quick to warm up and love on you! He's especially easy to come out of his shell when he has friends like Betty around.
HELP US find Betty & Otello find their forever homes after all this time! While they are not a bonded pair, they'd also be happy to go to a home together as well—and two cuties is better than one!
Come meet our Brindle Twins in B12. As long-stay residents, their adoption fees are waived and both of these cuties are already spayed/neutered, healthy and ready to go home!
Today’s Playgroup–Meet some of our long-stay residents looking for homes!
Come meet them at 📍5001 Fred Wilson!
MUTT-A-THON finale and 🎟 Raffle Prizes!
MUTT-A-THON update from the #MuttMile turnaround!
Live from our MUTT-A-THON!
#FlashbackFriday to our first-ever MUTT-A-THON earlier this year in April!
What is a MUTT-A-THON? Walking/running every adoptable dog in the shelter in one day. We honestly didn't think it could be done, we thought we were crazy, our volunteers the Rescue Runners thought we were crazy, but why not try?
But WOW did you surprise us El Paso! OVER 500 PEOPLE came out to volunteer for this one-day event in April. And not only did every dog get a walk, some even got 2, 3 or 4 walks 😱
CAN WE DO IT AGAIN? There are even more dogs at EPAS waiting for forever homes, 680 are sitting in kennels right now as you are reading this post. HELP US MAKE IT HAPPEN! Sign up to participate in our MUTT-A-THON on August 27 from 8 am - 2 pm. ➡️ www.RescueRunners.org
Huge turnout at this morning’s Pet Wellness Clinic! Here’s a look at the line starting from Global Reach, some of our first visitors showed up as early as 3:30 or 4 am.
Thank you to Petco Love for providing the vaccines and support for these monthly events, and thank you to our lifesaving team of volunteers and staff who came out early today to help keep our community pets healthy and safe!
Happy #BlackCatAppreciationDay from our adoptable ✨void✨ kitties, and an honorable mention of our Tuxedo kitties, too! Did you celebrate with a black kitty at home?
National Book Lovers Day-Storytime
Today is #NationalBookLoversDay and at El Paso Animal Services, we are HUGE book lovers--especially our cats and kittens! Here's a special Storytime from our Education Coordinator, Jessica to celebrate. 📚 We're reading one of our favorites, "Let's Get a Pup said Kate" by Bob Graham.
Did you know that reading to our cats and kittens here at the shelter is one of the main ways we provide them with enrichment? That's thanks to our volunteer program for ages 8-13 and their parents/guardians, our Kitty Reading Book Club 😻 who come in daily to read out loud to our feline friends waiting for adoption. If you're interested in joining our Kitty Reading Book Club, email us at [email protected] for more information!
We’ve got Larry, Curly and Moe here! These Three Stooges have been here since early February, and all are looking for their forever homes!

Cleaning kennels is one of our biggest challenges at the shelter.
Animal Care Attendants start every day at 5 am to begin cleaning each kennel and care for the 1,000+ pets at the shelter. It takes on average 6 minutes to clean each kennel–but multiply that by roughly 500 dog kennels (and then cat kennels on top of that)! Our team is still cleaning kennels in other parts of the shelter by 2 or 3 pm, but usually by then, the kennels that they started cleaning are already dirty again. Unfortunately right now, we just don't have enough volunteers to take the 600-700 shelter pups we have out for regular potty breaks multiple times a day. But that's where you come in!
It's not an easy job, and our Animal Care staff work so hard every day, but we always need help! If you hate seeing poopy kennels 💩 we invite you to join our volunteer team! Sign up and get started at elpasoanimalservices.org/volunteer
Good luck at tonight's home game, El Paso Locomotive FC! ⚽️ Adoptable pup, Travis Barker will be WOOFing for you!
Today kicks off National Adoption Weekend! Join us for FEE WAIVED adoptions, sponsored by Best Friends Animal Society today through Sunday!
Saturday Playgroups! All of these pups are available for adoption. Come visit us at the shelter - 📍5001 Fred Wilson
We're not sure a sweeter boy exists! Ty Ty may look a little intimidating with his tiger stripes and his size, but this cutie is just a big 'ol softy. He loves to spend time outside, getting belly rubs, and when he's excited, he does a happy wiggle dance!
Come meet Ty Ty and his friends this weekend during our FREE ☀️ DOG DAYS OF SUMMER ☀️ adoption promotion through Sunday!
Yesterday, 30 of our pups took flight to our rescue partners in the Pacific Northwest, where they'll quickly find loving forever homes!
Many shelters and rescues, including us, all over the country are full due to decreased adoptions and the continued impacts of COVID, such as families loosing their housing and jobs. But we are lucky to have some flights continue despite these challenges, especially when we have over 1,000 pets in our care! HUGE thank you to our partners for making this PAWssible!
